He didn't miss anything. Conservatives would have seen that coming from a mile away. He's not trying to appeal to them.

Apparently he got it for his intentions, as opposed to any achievements. But considering the history of handing the prize out to American politicians (Obama, Gore, Carter), it is obvious that this is simply a political statement. This is playing well outside of the US, but domestically it has hurt him.

But I do have to say Obama missed a HUGE opportunity in this. If he had simply turned it down, he would have increased his messiah value tenfold both domestically and internationally. It doesn't matter that he is donating the money, he simply should have turned it down.

nobel peace prizes (these days) are like the trophies you get in little league. you know, the ones that everyone on the team gets, regardless of playing time or the team's record or anything that's logically tied to merit.

so yeah, who cares? obama is a manchurian candidate. and that's that.

Wrong. He was nominated by the time he was in office for 11 days along with 204 other people. The final winner isn't decided until October.

Their work begins in February, shortly after the February 1 deadline for nominations from parliamentarians, academics, international jurists, former winners — and themselves. This year brought them a record haul of 205. By that date Mr Obama had been in office for 11 days.

Writing in his will in 1895, Alfred Nobel designated who should determine the winners of the annual prizes which he intended to be established after his death.

The winner of the prize is decided by a majority vote of committee members at the start of October.
PS. HAPPY LEIF ERIKSON DAY EVERYONE

His latest album is pretty awesome.

Last of the English Roses is one of my fave songs of the year.

Nobel Peace Prize worthy? I'm not sure. But arguably, yes.

ps. Not sure why Obama got it, maybe after 4+ years and signs of him achieving something... but right now? Eh... whut?

If people had actually saved money and cut spending, we would see a massive contraction, a depression. (this is something all economists agree on, the debate is about whether government policy can affect that)

That speech was the biggest travesty of his career. I disagree with Obama, but I have never seen him actually flagrantly lie like that.
So what he did spent money and prevented a massive contraction which all economists agree would cause a depression and you're mad about this?

Or is it just that he completely lied, in which case you're mad about a politician lying?

I think half of the Nobel prizes are given out just to keep it annual.
