I work at the front desk of my dorm (which is on floor 15, so nobody ever visits unless they have a reason to - there's no random people walking in from outside like in most dorms). Of course when I work my day shifts I'm going to wear jeans and normal clothes, but for my 4-6am shift I roll out of bed at 3:55 and don't feel like putting on clothes for a 2 hour shift.

So basically all I do at work, during this shift, is homework. During other shifts I actually have to answer the phone, sort mail, and rent stuff out to residents, but nobody visits us at 4am on a Monday (especially after Halloween), so not being allowed to wear pajamas/sweat pants is the stupidest rule ever.

Also, my boss is a junior in college, and he's only a couple of months older than me. He's on a total power trip. He's totally fine coming and chilling with me when I'm wearing a bikini while tanning (most awkward situation ever) but heaven forbid I wear pajamas to work at 4am.

Of course I get paid. They better pay me for fucking up my sleep schedule the way they do. I don't get a normal night's sleep all week. I actually don't get to sleep at all on Thursday nights because I work 9pm-6am.

EDIT: Soup's lucky he's not my facebook friend or else he'd go nuts over my Halloween costume.

Desk Assistant jobs do kind of suck, but be glad you aren't the sap that has to work 9 PM to 6 AM Friday or Saturday nights. I did my share of that job and they got anal about letting us watch movies on our computers, play games, or have friends present to talk to. I guess they want you to stare at the wall or do your homework only.

Nevertheless, I got pretty good and inventing games to play. For one, I would stack up 30 markers on their end and try to knock them all down with 30 rubber bands from across the room. Another fun game is to make "poppers" out of paper clips (where you bend them so they spring upward when you put them on a table) and see if you can set 10 off in unison. Then of course there's the classic bouncy ball game where you see how much shit you can hit and pray to God you don't hit the fire sprinkler. Try these, I guarantee they will entertain you for at least an hour.

Haha nice. I have worked those Friday/Saturday shifts before... but they were usually by choice. As in, I had a midterm on Monday and I knew that if I wasn't forced to be at work, and therefore studying, I'd be out getting drunk.

Luckily our boss is still cool with us watching movies and playing games, but I foresee him forbidding these things in the near future. At night (9pm-8am) there's always 2 people working as well, so you at least have someone else to talk to.

Also, I would like to add in the fact that my boss walks around in his bathrobe. Kind of hypocritical for us not to be allowed in pajamas at 4am when he wears his bath robe in his office at 6pm.

And from what I saw at BSU, both from the desk clerks as well as people controlling your id's at night (that must be even shittier) they were allowed to watch movies or talk to people or do all kinds of shit.

I support your boss. No matter how useless your job is (I have a similar one), it is still just that: a job. I am sorry, but I deal with people like this all the time at my job. They think that they can come in sweatpants or pajamas, sleep in the back room, maybe play some computer games, or just sit on facebook the entire time. These are the same people who show up 20 minutes late every time, walk around campus bitching about their job, and send emails out every weekend asking for shift coverages because of a "family emergency" when really they just want to go to the party that weekend. It is the easiest job in the fucking world. Every other job requires you to put on a decent set of clothes, suck it up and do it. It isn't supposed to be happy happy sleepy comfortable watch movies and play video games time. It is work. Think about that. You get PAID to sit on your ass for 2 hours and do NOTHING, and if you're work-study you can do up to 20! And you're whining about having to wear presentable clothing? Please. People do a lot harder work for less compensation, stop whining. Could be worse. I mean honestly, how good do you have it when in order to find something to complain about you have to resort to not being able to wear pajamas at work? Count your blessings.
