  • the rise and fall of ilyaz and the spiders from mars

back from my ban! so then, let me start off by saying the following.

my spamming was an impulsive, drunken and admittedly stupid move. and therefore, my disappointment with the current state of the forums was lost amongst the boneheaded-ness of the spam. i hope that this message, a more tempered approach, rings a bit more loud and clear.

Q: why did this uproar over ilyaz's ban occur in the first place?

A: some of our members are dissatisfied with the way these forums have been run and the direction they have taken in the recent (and even not so recent) past. when i say some, i certainly do not mean a majority, but i do believe there are enough unhappy forum community members out there to warrant a thread such as this.

Q: so what can be done to prevent a situation like this from arising again in the future?

A: i know the more level-headed and mature among us are going to say, "how about we all just grow up a bit and let maturity take care of the rest?" and to that, i can only respond with, "you're right." the thing is, you're only right in a perfect world, and we all know that the trench wars forums are the furthest thing from a utopia.

i do believe there is an answer, though, and it's one that i think can satisfy everyone. we can make the dissatisfied folks happier, and at the same time, we can prevent upsetting those who are fine with the way things are.

my solution is this. let's create a sub-forum. in that sub-forum, we will allow for a relaxed set of rules. porn can be posted (albeit within the limits of taste. which would mean some discretion as far as really sick shit. i.e. - no kiddie porn or bestiality or necrophilia and all that unhappy horseshit.) beyond the scope of porn, i envision that this sub-forum would, in general, be of a more adult nature. topics of conversation that would be deemed inappropriate for minors would find a home here.

let's make access to this sub-forum restricted. here's how it would work.

if you want to be able to view and post in this adult sub-forum, you will have to read and accept a modified Terms of Service agreement. that's all it would take. i'll even write the thing up if you'd like. if we make any user who wants to be privy to this sub-forum verify that they're aware of what they might see, asses are covered. the mods don't have to worry about the wrong people seeing the wrong things.

if you don't care to see that kind of content, you don't have to obtain access to the sub-forum. if you're just dying to post some tits, you have a place to do it, and only one proper place to do it.

it's a simple solution. and when you keep things simple, shit tends to work out, ya know?

not sure i understand why you posted that link, xog

yes, it is vaguely relevant to online terms of service agreements

but it it no way explains how one would go about vetting such a document so as to ensure legal viability

based on that, check out our hosted server's privacy policies (vbulletin) and see if they have a prewritten ToU/ToS we can use. No need for you to go writing something up

yeah i already had planned on simply doing a slight modification of the existing ToS. all it would take are a few sentences added to the original for people to be able to signup to the sub-forum i've outlined.

so beyond the legality of it, which is not what i'm worried about, do you think it's a good idea? i'm more concerned with what the community at large thinks of the idea itself.

so you want a sub forum where you can post and discuss porn? Seriously?

                              What would you discuss?

Me: Hey! Her pussy looks nice! I'm jacking off to it as we speak!

You: Hey! Jack off on those sweet tits of hers!

                              Me: Yeah man!

Squeezer: I editted it so she has a dick now hehehe

Yeah... that will be a really great forum. It surprises me that you actually want to put work into an idea so bad.
RaCka> imagine standing out as a retard on subspace
