omar by far is the best character, bubbs is cool also. after those two my favorite was probably d'angelo barksdale, bodie, and stringer. favorite white guy is herc and i also liked the sabotkas. i'm just starting season 3 so i'm glad to see all the "season 3 is the best" comments. the wire is my fav show of all time, topped only by weeds. entourage and always sunny come tied for 3rd favorite

edit: nick sabotkas girlfriends tits are amazing

my favorite character is bodie by far.

also season 4 is the best imo. i think that the development of the kids and the critique of the school system was the most brilliant part of the show.

also omar and brother mouzone are two of the finest tv characters ever, omar probably the best ever.

But I also really like Oz and Dexter.

just finished season 3, the second to last episode was pretty good. i can't decide if i like season 1 or 3 better, but they're both definitely better than season 2. yeah omar is awesome, one of my favorite characters in tv. however i think shane from weeds is the most well developed character in all of television and he is my favorite. and after that is spencer pratt from the hills (lol). that guy is fucking ridiculous and awesome. i feel pretty gay watching the hills but i never don't get a laugh from spencer. after shane from weeds and spencer from the hills comes omar, then probably the main character in summer heights high (i forget his name), kenny powers from east bound and down, ari gold and johnny drama from entourage, and then pretty much all of the main characters from always sunny. yep those are my favorite tv characters. btw i don't think the guy from the wire in ilyaz avatar is that cool! sure he's a badass, but i think he's pretty annoying, especially compared to omar...when him and omar team up it's pretty fucking sweet though

spent two hours watching random youtube clips from past seasons, gonna start watching it all over again. it took me a year to get over season two, i had no interest in finishing the season after seeing what a breakthrough season one was. three was sweet, and four and five were pretty friggin good.

But yea, the great thing about this show is I'm on like my 6th rewatch of the entire series on dvd (maybe second since the last season), and I still pick up new shit. Compare that to the Sopranos, which is also a great show... but after the second or third watching of the series you can pretty much recite all of the dialogue by heart.

I'll go ahead and save you some trouble with Mad Men, the shit where they are in the office brainstorming ads is great, but the rest of the family drama is garbage and almost completely turned me off to the show. Add that to the fact that only the last episode of this past season was as good as episodes from previous seasons. Pretty disappointing.

And as far as that list goes, by putting Curb Your Enthusiasm (the best sitcom ever) at 21 and Dexter at 24 pretty much kills it. Those are both top 10 shows. I can't argue with the top 3 on the list... Freaks and Geeks was a really good show, but number 4? No. Mad Men at number 5? No. Can't see how you can have those two shows at 4 and 5 when Curb and Dexter are easily better and are ranked in the 20's. And I also question how you can have Deadwood at number 9 and not even put Rome or Carnivale on the list considering all 3 of those shows are HBO period pieces and are pretty much equal. I'd still probably say that Deadwood and Rome would be top ten shows though.
I had the notion that the show sucked after half watching season two, what the fuck was with that season? Rome is one of the top 5 best shows of all time, no doubt.

                        Wire seasons: 3>4>1>>2>>>5

No matter how many times you watch 5 it's not going to stand up because either a) either Simon's axe to grind with the Baltimore Sun took him completely outside of the scope of the show, or b) HBO reducing the season by two episodes ended up cutting a lot of plot out. We've got peoples lives being ruined left and right and all of a sudden we're supposed to care how pulitzer prizes are awarded? Fuck that. Maybe he fleshed out the newspaper stuff better and had to cut too many scenes, though. Hard not to want to give him the benefit of the doubt when possible.

Also, while there is a season 3 plotline that is incredibly far-fetched, I think most viewers can agree that it's a truly fun idea. The plotline in season 5 that's far-fetched not only is just flat-out stupid, but it barely fits in with what any of the characters would do.

I can't believe people here like Brother Mouzone. He's up there with Melo as one of the worst characters on the show. There's no reason his role had to be such a fuckin caricature of a personality.

Moving on, this Fidel Castro guy is a trip. The Mad Men home scenes are boring but Dexter is a top ten show? Rita (and of course her children) and Deb have got to be the most useless characters in the history of television and they are CONSTANTLY on screen. Not to mention how horrible LaGuerta is. Dexter has no reason to include all these idiot helpless women on the show. Either make the women good cops who don't need to be bailed out all the fucking time or leave them out. Don't get me wrong, I had some issues with Mad Men season 3 (the teacher was a horrible character specifically) but to essentially cite the wives and families of Mad Men as ruining the show while triumphing Dexter is just hilarious. That said, season 4 has been much better than the previous two seasons.

edit: Also, Sons of Anarchy has really come into its own this season. I'd put the corny crap/good show ratio easily at least as high as Dexter. The first season has some really dumb moments but if you can avoid taking it so seriously, it's still pretty entertaining.

Melo? Did you mean Marlo? What was unrealistic about that. I really liked the way Marlo figured out a way to get rid of the bodies during season 4.

IMO Season 4 is the best 13 hours in television. The scope of what it covers is ridiculous. Showing how dysfunction in the highest and lowest levels has a direct impact on the poor. Whether at school, in the community, or in city hall, "the shit rolls downhill" as Freamon (I believe, though it might have been one of the other homicide detectives). The other thing David Simon did with incredible success is show how poverty, illeteracy and social epidemics can become cyclical. We see the development of Randy, as he becomes a street orphan, Michael as he changes gradually into the next great B-More stickup man, Dukie as he learns to collect scrap metal and gains an addiction to heroin (like Bubbles), and Wee-Bey's kid (Namond...right?) who escapes the ghetto not because of his personal achievements, but through sheer dumb luck. More than any season, I felt that season 4 underlined the failure of America's attempts to cure the social ills that plague the poorest in our country. It did so by telling a captivating, no-bullshit or punches pulled kind of story. The boys acted like 14-year-old boys, and all of the points Simon had been trying to make fit perfectly with the core of the plot. Plus it has the scene where Omar robs Marlo's card game (the ongoing joke about the ring was pretty cool), and Lester Freamon being a badass yet again when he figures out the nail dilemma. It has the best death scene too (Bodie).

And Face, did you know that the character of Bunny Colvin is based on a real police officer in Baltimore that created a zone like "Hamsterdam" as a social experiment? That bit is actually non-fictional. David Simon based him on this real cop, who was similarly a longterm veteran of the force, and attempted to legalize drugs in certain areas only to be get egg on his face and be vilified by the press. No one actually looked to see how his experiment had panned out, but rather chose to demonize the guy instead.

3 is close behind season 4 in my mind.

                              4 > 3 > 1 > 5 > 2
