What you may not know is that Google Wave may not be useful now, because there aren't many applications fitted to it at the moment during its BETA stage, but eventually there will be more applications written for it.

Google are smart, they understand that apps are the future. Look at Apple, they have sold so many iPhones because of their ability to assimilate all of these useful applications into one versatile machine. The only thing Apple have that may be a little bit of a disadvantage is that they review their quality applications before they make it to their App Store, and this is where Google Wave comes in.

Not only will applications be written for Google Wave, but development and adaptability increases as everything is made open-source. Programmers will be able to develop apps that aren't just Apple-Only, they can develop tools for the internet, for the Windows and Apple operating systems respectively, therefore more will come out of open-source development for GW. You could argue that there won't be as tight quality control over the additions that will be made to Google Wave, but people will naturally find the best apps to use in conjunction with Google Wave anyway, so it does nothing but open possibilities.

The only thing bad about Google Wave is that great, they have had our excitement for an open-collaboration environment, but since they've released the beta, all they have done is continuously send out these Google Wave invites, as if there is something special. I've personally had Google Wave for a long while now, and there hasn't been ONE thing improved since I last got it, not even as much as a quick hotfix. They're losing interest by not doing anything about the development of their system, the people using Wave want to see something that brings them some form of satisfaction, and that's exactly what they're not doing now.

Hence, a lot of people just don't want to use Wave right now, it's stagnating in a puddle of uselessness. There's also the fact that HTML 5 hasn't rolled out yet so the features are more limited, not to mention it behaving damn slow in browsers.

What a joke. How is working on an island isolated from other people even considered teamwork?

People doing research separately on the same subject will likely going to have redundancy and overlap and will cost extra time in meetings and presentations.

From your post I believe that you never worked on a professional team or on a serious project. If this is false I would like to hear about your projects, methods and your success rate.

I only got Wave this Monday and I didn't have time yet to check it out. We currently use Basecamp as the centre of project management and subversion for our projects. I didn't have time yet to see how Wave could be part of that or replace it.

It's a forum. You could google have the shit people write here instead of making a thread for it, but then we wouldn't have any forum.

All serious people that know how business is being handled will appreciate the possibilities of Google Wave.
You're just thinking about your high school projects. Google Wave is thinking about business projects. Pretty sure they are a bit better than you are imagining. So obviously this tool will be super helpful.
And even though there are other similar tools around... Anyone ever beats Google in anything ?! Doubt it ....

Can you guys see serious companies actually using google wave to create documents? I am sorry, but if I went to visit a company and see their employes using google wave to edit their important documents i'd laugh.

                          Look at this.

Yeah,it was really made for business.

The company that I work for already blocked it.

It was created for entreitainment. And it fails at it.

There are many programs that can edit documents together and using word excel or whatever. I'd prefer to pay for a program than using google wave.

I think it has already failed, but, Google has the most information in the world
so maybe they will just keep developing it till it hits some target.

Nothing could be more asinine than twitter, yet businesses use that for serious purposes. I've collaborated on a few business documents and the most common way it gets done is with email attachments and long quote/reply threads that take a long time to make sense of if you're jumping in during the middle of the project. Yes, obviously there are better tools such as svn (for file revision), basecamp and RT (for discussion), but the limiting factor is always least technical user who won't touch such tools.

Wave is essentially revisioning and collaboration widgets that won't scare away less technical people. I'll happily use that rather than dealing with someone's important_doc_version123.doc system of organization.
