  • Best Video Games Ever (PC or Console)

Though I didn't check, I am sure that this topic has been discussed before. However, I can't remember ever seeing it and I've been on these forums for (I think) 6 years. Might as well give us something to discuss and review instead of the incoherent babbling of Display and/or telcat.

#1 - The original Zelda for sure. The one with the Gold cartridge for the NES.
    #2 - Pitfall (Atari I think)
    #3 - Chrono Trigger
#4 - FFX (Embarrassing to admit but I friggin love this game)

  • #2
This one is actually quite easy. FF7 is hands down the best game I have ever played, nothing is even close. The next spot isn't that easy, but games like Diablo 2, WoW, Streets of Rage and Starcraft comes pretty high up.

As an RPGer I can safely say that PC games are better then console games, and FFX was so fucking bad man. Nice story and graphics, but no armor, little magic, easy maps, and no friggin airship or world map...

        1. Betrayal at Krondor

This is an old game from '93. Riddles to open chests, a story told by the famous fantasy writer Raymond E. Feist, god damn I loved this game. Free on the internet now if you can stand triangular mountains. FF7 had a really good story-line, but if you imagine yourself reading a novel with it as the story, and having Cloud and the black guy talking, it would be pretty bad. You could read every scene and description in Betrayal at Krondor and it would be a legitimate fantasy novel.

        2. World of Xeen

In order to get on my top 3 list it really helps to have a picture of each of your party's characters on the bottom of the screen and they have to grunt when they get hit and smile evilly when they drink from a special fountain. Obsidian katanas anyone? Implosion and starburst spells? Riddles in every dungeon? Come on. Game comes with a fold out, laminated map, and a pad of paper for writing down important notes for figuring out riddles, drawing maps, noting powerful fountain locations or chests you can't open yet, fuck yeah.

        3. I could go with a console game here, and if I did it would either be Dragon Warrior 4, Final Fantasy 7, or maybe even Secret of Mana from Nintendo, and Phantasy Star 2 or Shining Force for Genesis. Yeah, I'm old.

But PC games always have so much more available to them. Lots of choices here, too. I loved Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant, but it was a little too slow-paced. Baldur's Gate 2: Shadow's of Amn was the shit, but D & D fighting is tedious with all the pausing and stupid rules. So to finish it off I'll go with...Diablo! Ya Diablo 2 is probably better, but it's basically the same thing and I probably had more fun playing the original because hack and slash was so new and inventive at the time!

If I were 10-20 years younger I would be listing MMORPG's probably, and I admit they are fun as fuck, but I had the most fun and the fondest memories of gaming when I was a kid, and when I didn't feel like a such tool paying monthly subscriptions.

BTW, the best feeling in any gaming is when you get to a new town and go straight to the armor/weapon shops.

No Magic?!? :O I was so addicted to that game, I made sure every single character had every single spell in the game. Something like 60+ spells per + the Aeons were fucking badass, though the intros grow old causing you to just disable them entirely. Secret of Mana is good, long game, but rediculously stupid when it comes to leveling up your magic.

I'd like to add to my list an old PC game "Dagger Of Amon Ra". Scared the piss out of me when I was like 10, but I loved it.

Edit: I also fucking love watching chicks dress up like Rikku.

FFX was just incredible. You either didn't get far enough for armor customization or just didn't pay attention to it Vatican. I played that game at least 3-4 times, including stat maxing a couple times, and that's despite one of the very few flaws of FFX - unskippable cutscenes. So many people just blindly choose FF7, not giving other FFs a chance at all. FF7's story was just ok compared to FFX.

The game I've played the most though, SSBM. No other game is as fun as that. sure, it's easy to pick up and newbie friendly. but considering how deep the fighting mechanics are, once you truely know how to play the game, that's where it gets amazing. It just seems to never get old.

FF7 was easily the best game ever, it revolutionized gaming.

Secret of mana is up there also.

007 Goldeneye for 64 reinvented the FPS.

The first Halo pretty much once again reinvented it since every single new age FPS is similar to it and we all know how many there are now.

I've beaten FFX including most of the Dark Aeons. It's a very good game but it still doesn't hold a candle to FF7, and it's not because of the cutscenes. The materia system in FF7 is absolutely superior to any form of system I have ever seen in a RPG game, it allowed you to customize abilities on each character in a way you couldn't in other FF games. The storyline in FF7 is also the best game story I have ever played through while FFX is hardly memorable.

It's pretty stupid to say that people pick FF7 blindly over FFX because of the cutscenes just because you happen to like FFX better. Not only did I give it a chance but I liked it alot too.

And to jump back on topic:

We have to include some of the classic fps shooters here: Doom, Duke Nukem, Quake from the old era. Then Valve comes along and makes Half Life which again is modded into Counter-Strike, they did something enormous to transform multiplayer FPS gaming from LAN parties to online gaming. Even today they are leading on the fps genre with the Orange Box (Half Life 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2).

1# Street Fighter II - snes
i played this loads when i was a kid and everyone knew the moves and the characters, many an epic battle fought out though M.Bison the end guy cheated to fuck and was incredible frustrating !

                          2# Mario kart - snes
Never owned this but played it loads with my friends, so much playbility and fun in this game with different levels for ability, racing your ghost in time trials <3 battle mode poppen them balloons , gp's show me someone who didn't like this game and i will show you a fun hater. Never truly equalled in the sequels that i've played

                          3# championship manager
fantastic series but i've not played it in ages, i played it when i was reading text of Giggs sprinting down the to the by-line and putting a cross in for Albert Luque to score (and yes he did better in mine than in real life)

                          4# half life
When 1st person shooters turned into more than just point and blast for me - mention goes to Unreal and the Unreal tournament for story line and multiplayer support

5# golden axe - mega drive
again never owned but played alot and was fun ^_^

well if i didn't have a seprate RPG section there wouldn't be room for any other games

                          1# Planescape Torment - PC
this is the best game i've ever played probably, in terms of story and characters i've not played better. I'm not a D&D buff and didn't know differences in the forgotten realms and Planescape settings but what i found out was that Planescape is crazier, darker, funnier and more my cup of tea. This game involves alot of reading though and is a different pace to todays games.

                          2# Baldurs Gate
Fantastic series , found it's successor neverwinter nights lacking in the quality gameplay and storyline that these had. Baldurs gate 2 was a worthy sequal though they rushed the storyline in the expansion pack throne of bhaal the shadows of Amn was one top notch and you could play it again without much repeating if you chose another path

                          3# Fallout
Very different to the usual and also had a great dark sense of humor. I really loved the first 2 but never bothered with that tactics one and fallout 3 is good with some of the original feel but the 3d did loose alot of that and also none of the original developers where actualy involved, it has been said that it's a bit like oblivion with guns and i think that's true

4# Vampire the masquerade : bloodlines
very dark atmosphere and great rpg where your abilities and traits offer you different ways to achieve your goals. it's a pity more games like these aren't about

                          5# Zelda - snes
got me into rpg's kinda and was great expanding your lifebar and getting better equipment

                          honorary mention Diablo 2
the game play was kinda spam shit but the item generation was immense and dragged you into it so that you'd complete it 3 times at diff dificulties to get to hell mode still lvling and trying to get better gear - how many games can say that :F
                          In my world,
                          I am King
