Weather in the U.K. 16" of snow in London!

London got 16" of snow? wow! Is the entire country getting dumped on this winter? All the time and years I spent as well as lived there and I never witnessed snow to the amount they are getting now.

I just can't picture London shut down....must be pretty cool to witness this. What's the effect on the southern coast such as Brighton and Sidmouth or Torquay area? Lived in Sidmouth for some time, just hard to imagine snow there...at least not anything more than a dusting.

I live in Brighton and everything is pretty much shut down. Trains and buses are limited service or cancelled. Power cuts in quite a few places. Schools all closed and most workplaces, I'm working from home.

I would think so yeah, there is a very cold eastern wind blowing through the Netherlands right now.

Wednesday evening some people spend 7 hours in a traffic jam, the last one didn't clear up until 1.45am.

but you normally get snow? so? There is recorded snowfall in London from 1620, when the Thames river froze over. The Thames river has frozen over LOTS of times since then.
There have also been periods of sustained snowfall, from December to March, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

There was snow in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

It's not uncommon for there to be snow in the UK anymore, there was snow in London last year, before there was ANY snow in Finland.

With records like that, the South of England, gets snow as often as the South of Finland :wub:
