i still work, but soon i'll have 7 weeks of vacation buhaha.

also this volcano thing was deemed not to be force majeure in finland (thus having to pay for accomodation, around 50€/night)

We tend to get more weeks of vacations a year. Also, I'm in my masters and I'm done with all my classes, only have a masterthesis left to do so I have plenty of time.

Any airline operating in the EU will have to re-book your flight and has to provide you with accommodation, it's the law (Good old EU!), and these airlines are losing £100m a day which is terrible seeing as some of them are already in massive amounts of Debt.

Also a passenger: "I don't know who to get mad at, cause you can't be mad at a volcano!"
Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it's not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. it's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.:fear:

In this artists rendering, we find that we can be mad at the volcano!

They are starting with flights tonight in Amsterdam, so let's hope they keep this up and not shut it down again.

Around these parts, I believe if they overbook a flight, they'll offer accommodations and what not, but I don't believe that counts for cancelled/postponed flights, as that would cost a shitload for weather delays and what not.

Seriously, why should the travel agencies have to pay a fuckload of money because of an uncontrollable natural occurrence?

PS. Why can't they fly around it? I mean fly like Southeast and then back up Northwest on a layover?

When they closed the airports the ash clouds were directly over North Europe, meaning the planes couldn't get in the air without going through the ash clouds. Which was the problem, the other problem was that all the governments were way over protective and closed the airports for about 2 days too long.

Great, after finally getting from Bari (South Italy) to Zurich by train, and then by car to Weeze (North Germany) and almost getting into the line to get on plane after all security checks etc they announce that the finnish airport still isn't accepting flights and now it's been cancelled. Two days in trains, 11 hours of driving with 2 hours of sleep in the middle, total of 2100 kilometers travelled we get a no no in the final minutes =D Ok time to get to know Germany. We have a new flight going to Finland on Sunday so we got till then, currently in Dusseldorf.

This is boring - hopefully an asteroid the size of alaska will impact the earth, direct course shortest path though the atmosphere. This will eliminate the scum population

It isn't about my vacation. My vacation was a long way from being in danger.

It's about the money the airlines were losing each day they weren't allowed to fly and the money the airports were losing each day there weren't "open" (I say "open") because you could still go there and get inside, planes just weren't allowed to leave or land. And on Sunday all pilots and airlines found it to be safe to fly again, they did rest runs and no ash was found. They wanted to fly but weren't allowed to until Monday evening (and only 3 flights left Monday evening, so say Tuesday morning). Schiphol was losing 2 million (if I remember correctly) for each day the airport was closed. So that's why the airports were closed 2 days too long, due to a shitty system in Europe and the Governments being to scared. It's all economics, not my vacation.

Edit: Ara, Weeze is far from being North Germany, more mid Germany, but anyway. If you're in Germany and you want to get home, why not go way up North and take the Ferry to Helsinki?

All ferries were reserved, but no worries anymore I hope, planes flying again.
