I think I'm getting it done where my mom had her root canal. She said she didn't feel anything painful, it was just annoying to go through.

Dentists never knock people out here, for anything. If you really need something big done or are just too scared to keep breathing you could go to a hospital and cough up some extra cashies.

Really tho, root canals aren't that bad. I've had two now, and the last one still needs to be finished. The normal anesthetics work just fine for most of it. It will never be pain free though because they actually have to drill out the entire root of the tooth and it simply gets too close to the nerves. Then again the drilling part is over pretty fast and you'd have to be a real wimpy m'fker if you can't get over that. When they start filling the canals is really the more painful part. They have to flush out the canals with chloride several times and that reduces the effect of the anesthetic every time they do it. Pressing the filling into the canals is slightly more painful but it doesn't take very long anyway.
When I look back to it, the thing I hated the most was the chloride flushing. It's pretty much inevitable that they can keep the stuff away from your throat, although they really do try. That stuff starts burning like hell and as soon as you feel it, let them know. Don't try to be tough on this part, I know I tried and you'll be sorry after. Have them immediately suck it out when you feel it leaking.

Other than that, it's shits and giggles really. Tough up and have fun with it

Oh I guess it's bad to have chloride go down your throat?

This guy needs one too, but his bonnet gives him power.

Heh don't worry, you don't need to be "knocked out". I took mine without it and it was an experience you will remember for a few years. It's true, they first inject your gum several times with local anaesthetic, drill a hole to the crown of your tooth, but then comes the part where it may hurt a bit more. They stick a long needle right into your nerves inside your tooth, yes this was indeed painful, and the pressure didn't help. But after that it was ok and local anaesthesia kicked in and I didn't feel any pain while they were digging out the insides of my tooth, of course I felt it though.

Edit: Do I just remember it differently, or did they do it differently compared to Rednaz.. hmmh? I may be wrong though, it happened 8 years ago.

Ah no you're right, the first time I had a root canal they did inject the last anesthetic straight into the nerves, I remember I jumped at least a meter high out of my chair, while lying down. Also the reason I didn't go back for about 8 years and had to go 10+ times in the last year. (He also slightly dislocated my lower jaw from cleaning the roots :/)
But I had my last root canal maybe 8 months ago and it was different. Maybe slightly more painful on the pressures, but not having that injection, I really didn't care.

Act like you're going to bite the doctors hand (make a loud noise when you do it too) when he first starts, they love that.

When I was little and in India, I went to the dentist to get a teeth pulled. I kicked him and ran out without my shoes.

I forgot why I took my shoes off...

Anyways, went to the endodontist today. He said the cavity was pretty deep, but he managed to remove most of it, put medicine in it and gave me a permanent filling.

NO ROOT CANAL FOR ME! ^-^
