Religion has been a reason that has been easy to produce to wage those wars. If religion would not exist, people would have found different reasons to go to war.

Religion is just an excuse for egos to show that they are the alpha male.

And Burnt, it's impossible to have a discussion on it. People that believe are convinced that you'll go to hell for not believing, people that don't believe are convinced those that believe are complete tools, there is no middle ground, there is no discussion. A discussion implies that at some point you'll move at least somewhat closer together, or at least be able to say: Yeah ok, I see your point, I might not agree but let's agree to disagree. That doesn't happen in this discussion.

Why? Because it's faith against science, basically. Most of the people that believe, have faith and faith cannot be changed by science. Most people that don't believe don't see the proof, because there is none without faith and those that are of "science" (I don't mean you have to be a scientist) will never get faith.

Actually, that is a perfectly good method if it sticks to a set of strict methodological rules. 1000 is a bit on the small side to generalize over such a crowd, but if the selections have been made according to methodological rules, the method is correct.

Not when its a tiny fraction of 1% of the entire population that the results generalize for.

I have a very hard time believing that 31% of the population believe that. I know people from staunchly athiest to diehard religious, of all religions, and I don't know anyone who actually believes that.
