I went to walmart again, and it was still sold out. WTF?

Anyway, I think I'm just gonna buy it off the internet. Should I do one of those D2D things or actually use amazon and get a cd delivered?

i'm pretty sure if you get a digital copy (which is what i did), you have to get it straight from blizzard. steam doesn't carry it, and neither does direct2drive.

i get digital copies of all my games these days. the only case i would make for getting a physical copy is for a collector's edition.

i'm not worried about my rank. i'm destined to be a lowly bronze for months to come. i just want the game to actually be interesting and not a cakewalk for you.

I haven't ever done the digital copy thing of a "legit" game before, so I'm wondering how it works really. If you say... uninstall your game... can you redownload it at a later time through blizzard free of charge? I mean, if I bought a new computer one day, could I still retain my old digital copy of SC 2? I think that stuff worries me, because I still have the old original Starcraft/Broodwars cds, and I've installed/uninstalled/reinstalled them so many times throughout the years. I just don't want to buy a digital copy and realize I'm fucked if my harddrive fails or something.

Also, my other fear of it is more along the lines of modding I guess. It probably wouldn't matter with SC2, but games like Oblivion and Fallout 3 are AMAZING when you add mods to them. Those games are meant to be modded, because the original game sucks compared to what the modding community did for them. The problem is, digital copies can't be modded, because you would have to reverse engineer them somehow to do it. They are protected in some way (I'm not a techie, so I have no idea how), and they just can't be altered. I guess that gives me a bit of apprehension as well.

Other than that... if it's straight from blizzard and I can redownload it at will, then I think I'll go that route. If I can't, then I'd rather have the CD/DVD.

Man Jason, you just gave me a great idea. I haven't been to the zoo in like 10 years, and I forgot how fun it was when I went as a kid. This would be an awesome date idea. I know Chicago has a great one (brookfield zoo), but I completely forgot about it really. Thanks for the unintentional help.

Ok, back on topic! Starcraft arrrrr Zerg and protoss and terrain blah blah blah.

you can download it straight from blizzard's site

my friend did it with a guest pass that I gave him when I bought the game (so he never really paid for it).

yeah, you can download directly from blizzard and you'll get a key that's tied to your battle.net account. now you can't go and install one copy of the game on multiple computers (which you wouldn't be able to do with a physical copy either), but you can uninstall/reinstall as many times as you want on the same computer. or you could reinstall on a newer machine sometime in the future. if you don't feel like saving the installer after you download it the first time, you can always re-download.

if i remember correctly, the digital copy is about a six gig download and the game takes up about twelve gigs once it's installed.

edit: as far as modding goes, i think we'll see plenty of DotA type customizations emerge as time goes on. there really isn't a whole lot of modding you can do to an RTS anyway other than custom maps which lend themselves to a custom "theme" so to speak. at any rate, having a digital copy will in no way affect the modding potential of a game. digital downloads are a means of distribution, nothing more. once the game is installed, it's absolutely no different than if you had installed from a cd/dvd.

alright so I was playing this one guy who I thought was a newb right (the avatar usually gives it away, but sometimes its a really good player). and I set up a gate and some canons (as protoss) inside of his base and only found him with a shit ton of supply depots and scvs, so easily wiped them out with some zealots but the bastard didnt surrender, so I'm thinking to myself hes just hiding somewhere. I make another gate and make a shit ton more zealots and sent them throughout the maps, he made a fucking base everywhere with supply depots and scvs.Jesus christ, he had at most maybe 3 barracks and 1 hellion constructor, but he had next to no soldiers or hellions so i just raped him with zealots across the entire fucking map. I only made 3 pylons, never acquired any vespene gas, and I never even moved on to my next mine field. This guy had the entire map with a base rofl. finally made him surrender after he realized I destroyed every single one of them

Have you gotten those people who don't surrender, i.e. they take a guy and build cheap buildings all around the map just to keep the game going while their command center flies around?

It only happens in 2v2 because one quits so the other player gets the resources, and he can go around building command centers and what not.
