If they are seeking to close the gap, why not do it in other ways? Or why not wait for a longer period of healing time? Why do this where and when the victims failies are so obviously upset over it?

So you are stating that from the 2750 victims none were Muslim eh...
Same rights for everyone, so why don't we move the Church that is located on like 100 metres from the WTC ground? Pretty sure that is a lot closer than the location they want to build a so called Mosque, which actually isn't really a Mosque.

                      • ok guys, I literally work within walking distance of ground zero, and I couldn't care less about a house of worship/prayer being built near it. I've discussed this topic with several friends and co-workers as well, and none of us give a shit. I think it's the rest of America that cares. Which is quite ironic. And Ara is mostly right about euros and new yorkers. There are other cities that share the same views though. The majority of new yorkers share similar views and opinions as many europeans, but you're always going to have people that disagree.

The Siena College poll showed 63 percent of New York voters surveyed oppose the project, with 27 percent supporting it. That compares with 64 percent opposed and 28 percent in favor two weeks earlier, results that are within the polls' sampling margins.

I do hope you are not representing the majority of the Americans though, because I won't have much faith in this world anymore then.

                            • itt we all agree that individuals are not representative of entire bodies of people

this europe = new york thing is really kinda funny, because it is obvious alot of you euros have never been to NYC. i mean, i have been a few times but all when i was less than 14 years old so i don't remember anything significant, but i do remember everyone being rude as fuck. i mean, downright fucking dicks. one of my ex's went to college in NYC for awhile and was mugged twice. two of my friends have been mugged there. on the flipside, i know people who are wealthier (or whose parents are wealthier), and they have had awesome stays in new york. so maybe my experiences are tainted by not being rich enough. :/

my best friends' cousins from the north, around NYC and in NYC, came down here and they thought everyone was stoned. they were amazed that you could stop and ask someone on the street, anyone, for a cigarette and a light. they also thought we all slept in beds surrounded by mosquito nets.

the charming thing about NYC is that it's the "melting pot" or whatever, culturally diverse, and here we have europeans (who ban burquas and clamp down on the free speech of muslims) comparing themselves to NYC? i mean c'mon. at that rate i could compare louisiana to new york and find some similarities, like what gen was saying.

for the record i'm not trying to hate on europe, but being as i am a southerner i feel compelled to talk shit about the north. say what you will, but i have two words for you: jersey shore.

                              • jersey shore =/= new york

                                jersey shore = new jersey

                                completely different state man

                                and very low blow.

a lot of new yorkers are dicks, in fact most are. Personally I've only been mugged once and that was when I was in middle school and the guys to jumped me were in the 10th grade wearing red bandanas over their faces.

experiences are nothing about money in new york. All the fun things you can do are actually inexpensive or even free. The things you pay for is to go to things that are actually outside the state and involves bus travel to get to/from there (like all the casinos). You can get broadway tickets fairly cheap but they try and sell you the expensive ones first, just ask for the cheaper ones and you'll just be sitting on the side instead of the center.

As for cigarettes, this place is very populated and it's VERY common for people to ask you for a cigarette. Here at work I go downstairs for smoke breaks every day and atleast 3 times per day someone comes up to me (usually a crackhead sitting down there waiting to bum off someone) asking for a cigarette. That's a lot of cigarettes man and I don't make a lot of money. A pack of smokes is $12.50 at the cheapest here in the city. Personally I leave my pack upstairs at my desk and take 1 cigarette down and tell the person that's asking me that it was my last one and pat my pockets.

I'd really like to be nice and everything but with more population comes more demand even from the general street goer. There's lots of people crowding the sidewalks walking different speeds, people are in a rush to get some where, some people have all the time in the world and both wind up getting pissed off at eachother. It's just how the city works, man. Not everyone can be nice and giddy like I am when visiting my family in Washington state.
