I don't consider myself as European. Those in Britain see ourselves as British (that's a lie, the English see ourselves as English, the Scottish see themselves as Scottish, and the English see Andy Murray as British when he wins and Scottish when he loses, but for the purposes of this post I shall group us all together as British) and not as European. Those on the continent see themselves as European and also see Britain as European. Those in Britain see themsevles as British and the Europeans can jump on our erect phalluses. Maybe its the fact that we don't have the Euro, maybe its the fact we're an island on the outskirts, maybe its because historically we were very strong and still wrongly see ourselves as being superior, however we just don't see ourselves as part of Europe. Its fairly inevitable we'll form closer bonds with the mainland over the next few decades with the rise of the Asian countries, however we have our formidable financial services industry 'and we're not letting any fucking Serge, Jurgen or Pedro have it'. Personally I don't mind if we 'join' Europe in the near future (both legistalively and in the cultural perception), it has equal benefits and negatives so won't change much. We're just certainly not European at the moment, we're British
