how do YOU do percentages ?

or if i'm figuring a percentage i'll use the 'ol "is over of"

as in: 9 is what percentage of 15? 9 / 15 = 0.6 or 60%

(100/15)*9=60
:S the silly way i was taught many years ago - not that percentages crop up much since then

but yeah thats reassuring anyway, just the person next to me has an english degree but is shit at maths and when i tried to explain it to her that it was the same thing she looked at me like i was an alien. Then the person taking the course used % too

i do them like get 12.5% of x
x*0.125

so in a spreadsheet to get that i do =A1*0.125 for example referencing the A1 data

but the person next to me got confused and didn't seem to understand this at all. Do most use the % button/function on calculators and spreadsheets ?
