what is this login shit

Sorry in advance for the long post, but I think you guys ought to learn a few things about proper design principles. Consider this my donation to trench wars for the moment.

I was frustrated by this change to the site. It took me about 5 times shrugging and logging in before I, as a typical user, realized what this screen was trying to tell me. Here's why:

1. People really don't read much of anything besides the content they're looking for (for proof, observe how many people respond to this post with something along the lines of TL;DR).
2. People especially don't read big blocks of text they didn't expect to see. Most will look for the OK button and, when it isn't there, panic (go ahead, try this screen out on 4-5 of your friends).
3. If it was unexpected AND you didn't give me an easy way out by clicking a button somewhere (not even a log in button), congratulations on the bug you have in your product because your program model no longer matches the user model.

So when I visit my 3rd thread (oh yeah, it doesn't happen right away, complete sucker-punch) and this strange dialog that I'm sure someone spent several hours wording "just so" appears on my screen, with the closest things that looks like buttons being the page theme and language selectors, I now have a problem. Now I (as someone who is both intelligent and determined) get to read this giant blob that I care little about just to figure out what I need to do to see the thread I'm trying to view. The user you're targeting with your gimmick is going to lose interest way quicker.

I understand what you're trying to accomplish with the new screen, but you're not even leading me to the links you've sparingly added to the paragraph. That's because they look just like the text in the rest of the paragraph unless I mouse over them.

So, you've basically accomplished two things you never intended to do:
1. Annoying most of your actual users
2. Driving away all the genuine guests with a screen that doesn't reach coherence within the first 10 seconds.

You're right we should cater to the people that got to the forums because they googled #basedgod and came across one of draft's posts. Fuck the game that these forums exist because of, our priorities are clearly all fucked up.

It's bad enough forcing people to log in/register, but making them download a game just to register? Fucking typical TW staff, trying to force people to play this game instead of actually putting some effort into making it a hospitable and enjoyable experience.

Want people to participate in the forums? Make them harder to view.

Want more people to participate in elims? Cut the total number of possible games in half.

Yes, good point.

I meant people coming back, forgotten passwords, want to see who still plays, just want to see what's new etc. I know I wouldn't bother registering, downloading the game, finding a bot and whatever. I would just close the tab.

I'm not going to log in just to view the forums. I am also not going to permanently log in because I let other people use this computer and am not going to get pranked.

There are two ways to do things in life. Constructively and destructively. All the plans tw has been doing lately have been destructive.. Forcing people to do what you want is something you should have learned doesn't work when you were in elementary school.

And no I'm not crying, and yes I will just not view the forum.

I prefer to just lurk and log in when I want to reply but if you think this will increase the player base, I'm fine with it.

I think most people will just not view the forums, maybe even those who forgot about the game and are coming back to say hi.

Edit: Go to Forum Actions at the top (underneath the terr). Click General Settings. Turn invisible mode on.

we have way too many visitors (guests) to the forums that never register an account. these are all potential players who may have just happened upon the forums and don't even know the game exists. gotta do what we gotta do to try to get these people in the game.

i realize there are people in your situation, pd, but as gran said, it's all too easy to just check the remember me box and leave yourself logged in.

stupid...gives forum staff an advantage in mafia...they can stalk the game w/o their name being displayed, but now if i want to my name has to be displayed...THIS SHIT IS RACIST!
