1. The federal government shouldn't be providing education for anyone, that should be done on a state by state level if it is done at all.
2. The problem with state schools is the same thing that is wrong with state science, you aren't going to bite the hand that feeds you and will agree with the politically correct bullshit at the time instead of keeping education free from political bullshit.
3. Colleges have to raise their rates every year because America is in the middle of a huge fucking economic problem, and all products cost more money every year due to inflation beginning to set in.
4. You are not entitled to a free fucking college education in America, stop thinking you are.
5. College educations are starting to become useless anyways, very few degrees actually have any real world applications and smart businesses know this. In the near future look for there to be more schools like ITT Tech etc that you can go and get a degree in a wide variety of professions without having to deal with the bullshit of going to an actual college. Engineering and Computers specifically.

Yeah no shit we're in a recession, but how does a 9% tuition hike with millions going to old boys retirement funds have to do with it?

Also, where did I say or imply anything about a free education? When did we start talking about the usefulness of a college degree? and yes, of course, many degrees will not get you a job, but how is that relevant?

1) Universities should be free because that is where the best minds are trained ... at least the best courses from top universities should be to those highly talented ones.

2) Universities are not primary school or high school, they shouldn't be spoon feeding students (at least top universities). They teach the basic stuff, equip you with different ways of thinking then let you to explore the rest. It is a bit of like teaching a bunch of puppy to swim by throwing them into the ocean. If some do not make back, it does not matter, because next year you will get a new batch.

3) Universities main role is to produce research results, or train people who can potentially advance the human society. That's why universities are often rated on their research count. If it is only a job you are after, then better do a course after high school or attend community colleague/tafe/polytechnic because you will be cheaper to hire and to be frank 95+% of the jobs do not need some PHd holding professors with an IQ of 150.

However, I can make an argument FOR buying lottery tickets. My provincial lottery (649) has odds of winning about 1 in 14 million. If the jackpot is over 20 million, you are presumably getting a better return than any bank will give you so it's an investment, albiet one you will probably never see returned.

I've always wondered why someone hasn't created a program that buys all the potential numbers when the jackpot is sufficiently high. You will bump the jackpot up and be certain to win. Of course, a problem arises when multiple people start winning.

That said, I've never bought a lottery ticket.

649 is Canada wide, not just B.C wide. Most people who win 649 live in Ontario or Quebec and then the rest of the country bitches and then someone reminds them that 2/3 of the countries population lives in those two provinces. Kolar recently won two grand, he got 5/6 numbers, which kind of sucks that the payout was that low. Another benefit to winning the jackpot in Canada as opposed to America is that you do not have to give up 50% of your winnings. If you win 30 Million, you get 30 Million. Lotto Max is pretty good (Canada wide and becomming more popular than 649), the jackpot caps out at 50 Million and every million after that is an additional set of numbers that are drawn and can be won. Of that 50 Million I believe you still have to payout secondary and third party winners from that 50 Million, but the payout is skewed a little but not by much (probably 45-47 Million instead of 50). If the jackpot is 70 Million, there will be 20 additional prizes of 1 Million dollars - which essentially creates more Millionaires. I think anyone who plays the lottery wants to see smaller prizes instead of these obscene amounts of money. It's nice when someone wins 30-50 Million but I like to see 20 people each win a Million dollars. I don't need a fucking jet or a rolls royce, just a house, a car, and enough money to make my life easier.

Also, I can't speak for any other province or state but the OLG (Ontario Lotto Gaming Corporation) is one giant fucking cash cow. All Casinos except a couple are owned and operated by the government. The amount of money and jobs that are created by this industry is obscene. Some provinces like Alberta have sold off their Crown Corporations, which is like trading off a proverbial cash cow for a quick buck. Sure all that money at once looks great until you realize how much your province relies on it to fill their coffers. Fiscally irresponsible shit on their part, but I guess a province who banks on oil and nothing else tends to do irresponsible shit.
