Is College life really like they make it look like on TV.
I have 1 more year to go and am off to some College in Toronto probably. To anyone who is currently attending some college or university and has lived on campus my questions to you are

1.Dude is campus really a great place to meet people or is it some dirty ass smelly rat hole?

2.Can u meet alot of friends at campuses or are people like robots wondering around and studying all the time?

3.Does College look anything like the movie Van Wilder or Road Trip or that UNDERGRADS Cartoon that they keep showing every night?

It really depends on what school you go to. No college is not like what it seems on the TV.. but that goes for anything in life.

    1. Its a great place to meet people.. and the dorms are smelly ass shit holes.

    2. During the day everything is so busy you have no time to meet anyone.. you are either going to class, in class. But at night.. there are parties all the time. So you can meet a lot of people if you are willing to disreguard your books and shit.

    3. Yes and No. Like i said college isn't like it is on TV. But the nights are crazy as hell.

It will be a great experience. have fun.

I'd say that Undergrads is probably the closest thing that you'll see on TV. Of course, television and the movies are hardly an accurate basis from which to form comparisons to real life.

Hopefully your college experience won't be defined by a Good Charlotte song.

It depends a lot on what college you go to I imagine.

          1. Freshman year is, take advantage of and you'll meet tons of people. Everyone living in my apartment, and 95% of the people that come to the parties we have our people that all met each other freshmen year.

          2. Unlike highschool where a large number of my friends I met during class, I think I have met 1 person during classes in college. Mostly it's because I tend to take classes that have like 150 people in them and ironically you don't meet people when there are tons of people, but when there are like 10 people in a class and you all get to know each other. But unlike highschool you actually you know live there, so you meet people through the dorms, friends of friends, sports teams, parties, and all that crap. After classes are over there is tons of free time even in a college like Cornell where I go, so it's not like everyone studies all the time (although there are a few freaks who do, but you don't want to meet them anyway).

          3. Haven't seen it... and a tiny bit but I'd say no. First off if you go to an Ivy League school or something similar be aware that a lot of people are going to be ugly, this was the biggest adjustment for me from highschool to college. And don't expect tons of crazy hijinks all the time. Mostly parties are just getting high and drunk and having conversations about stupid stuff and then going to sleep at 5 a.m.

I dont know who you met or who you "party" with, but if there isnt 30+ people, music, dancing and keg stands then it isnt a party =P! ps I have test my theory at 3 florida University's
              I agree.

My University experience, and this applies to real world too.

Nowadays, it is very competitive at the University and you have to be wise about it all.

Ok sure its cool to make friends and party..etc.. but usually there isn't much time for this, if you are trying to get a very high GPA.

In Engineering I managed to get a 3.78 GPA, but I got burnt out completely and took me some time to recover. Partying is good to maintain balance and in the end helps you out... just remember too much partying can also be bad too...

                But the other thing...

Don't trust everyone you meet in University... some people will be nice to you... why? Cause they want something.. like help with a course... once they get what they want, they leave you in the dust and never help you out. Also beware of cheaters, you get you to do their assignments for them...

Also there is cliques(groups), some students pool resources.. very wise, but the solo (lonewolf) students are at a complete disadvantage.

Another thing is the Professors/Instructors, know how they tick, that can go a long ways... don't suck up to them, just learn what they teach and do what they say... get thru the damn course...

But nowadays, with bad economy (less jobs), everyone is damn serious and all aim for very high GPAs....

I was in Engineering, so it might be different in other fields/careers.

Personally, for Electronic Engineering it is a waste of time / money to goto University. Maybe 2 years is good enough, learn the math/physics.. all the electronics stuff can be learnt in industry.

Whats the best university in the world?

                The University of HIL

HIL = Hard knocks, Industry, and Life...heh..

Mr. Bojangles and his PhD rubberstamp can only get you so far...many highly educated can't find work and are in mega debt. Many fields are saturated, and its hard to get your foot into the door.

Bottomline if you are poor/middle class, going to no-name University is also not good. High-end companies want people from high-end Universities...

Come on would Intel want a MIT grad or a University of Boondocks grad for a Computer Engineering position?

                Just remember this:

Acquire as much knowledge and wisdom from your experience at University.

GPAs exist to give the mices in the maze something to shoot for... its all one big mindgame institution.

What matters is that you learn something for what you pay for and recall it later on.

Many grads forget most of the stuff they learn, since the whole education system is flawed... it works a bit, but a very flawed system, very pathetic.... oh well what do you expect from a society that is solely driven on money... garbage in / garbage out.

all three questions can be answered with this...depends on the school.
The ebst way to find out about how the school is, is to visit a couple of times and talk with people.
But from my experience, i came out of college with probably 2 friends from classes and the rest from student org. or dorm life or parties.

Most people are friendly and pretty much everyone hates to study, but does it becuase you have to, so everyone loves a good distraction. But best place to meet people is not just randomly on campus.

Sometimes life is better than a movie. Sometimes life works a lot worse than the movies. Truth can be stranger than fiction.

Anyway, enjoy college, they can be some of the best times of your life.

College or university? We call it university here in Canada Tyson you should know that, college = community college and I don't think that's what you're asking about.

What school/program are you planning to go to/do? I went to UofT so I can tell you about my time there

Since I know you live here, I highly recommend living in residence (unless you go to York where you might as well communte to that concrete nightmare) esp if you go to UofT downtown... commuting to school sucks ass and you don't meet people that way. Everyone I know I met in my first year when I lived downtown and then very few when I was commuting!

Everyone looks down upon York's campus, I don't know why though.........
maybe it's the neighbourhood but I actually liked the setup of the campus (what I saw) for the week I was there.... it's all hardwood floors and cute little courtyards and cool stuff like that... heh........
