you do realize that by categorizing yourself as athiest that you follow certain beliefs, just like most religions.

"active atheism" is defined by some as a belief that there definitely is no god, or that one specific god does not exist. passives like me are still open to ideas (but have found enough evidence to support the non-existence of a god)

As for the second part, "atheism is a religion", for some strange reason, is often used by theists to criticize non-believers. Athiesm is not a religion. It is not a philosophy. It is, however, a disbelief.

there is a difference between not believing in something, and not believing in the existence of something.

edit: For all you hardcore theists out there, atheism means away from theism. Atheist do not pray, have churches, preists/pastors/bishops, stop at someone's door to try to convert someone, follow a book of fairy tales (such as the bible), or do any other silly stuff that religious people or theists would do. Atheism cannot be a religion or a faith if there is no god, gods, godesses or some other supernatural creator to believe in.

first off, do you people who are saying "do people actually think signing an online petition does something" actually think that people think that? My observations tell me religious opinionists are way too quick to bash others who dont follow their religion. I hate an opinionated religious person.

what does pointing out the fact that atheism may be a religion, or may still have beliefs have to do with the fact that they do not waste hours,days,years of their lives following a storybook written ages ago.

All this violence would be gone if everyone accepted god? technically, but we would live in a boring ass world in which no one has their own personality and priests take advantage of little boys.

I am straight up a nonbeliever in organized religions. There may be a god who started the universe and set all the laws of physics, or there may not. In the end I will not submit myself to religions because they have no god damn proof. Where are all the miracles nowadays? I dont want some BS about some kid who fell off the top of a skyscraper and lived, i want 2 of every animal on earth to get in some mexicans car. I want a guy to walk across water naked, I want some virgin chick to give birth to a carpenter named AL. Then I want AL to be crusified and burried. I believe that the bible and every other religious guideline book were written to keep the simple people of past civilizations from eating eachother and stealing camels. It is way past its time, as science evolves, they change their beliefs.

God is my best friend who comforts me continually.
Those who don't know God, Don't seek God... and what they do know about God, they didn't get it from God. They were spoonfed a religious philosophy either by their parents, or some influential person in their life.

People like to "Play church" as if it counts for anything. Many go to church their whole lives and still don't have a clue who God is, nor have they ever met Him. People like to think that "they chose to believe in God" but God chooses us to believe in Him. God (the Son) says, You didn’t choose me, I chose you.. (John 15:16) "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him" (Jn:6:44)

So if you don't know God, or have a problem with God, it's because God has never revealed Himself to you. Or if you claim to be a religious person and have a problem with some of the things God wants for us, then you're just playing "religion".

A relationship with God does not require a religion or denomination to subscribe to. Merely communicating with Him with the faith & belief that He's listening and that He really cares that we live our lives abundantly blessed. (blessed means HAPPY) God wants us to be happy, but at the same time He wants us to love each other with the same care He shows for us.

Unlike a religion with all it's rules & meaningless traditions, God just wants us to recognize who Jesus is and the price He paid so that we could have His blessings; in this world and the next. Look at the thief on the cross. Did he follow Jesus around? Was he a "good person"? All he had to say to Jesus was that he believed Jesus was innocent for the crimes accused of... And what did Jesus say to him? "Verily I say unto thee, Today you will be with me in paradise." (Lk:23:43) Did he have to endure the "religious doctorine" of purgatory? Hell NO! He went straight to paradise with the Lord!

God is our Father. Have we established a worship of our earthly father? Do we build religious philosophies centered on the worship of our parents? So why do we do it with our Father in heaven?

Religion is a tool of the devil, used to keep God within the boundries of human understanding. God didn't invent religion, man did. Like Jesus said, "Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?" (Mt:6:26) He goes on to say the same thing about the lillies of the field.

Do you see fowls and flowers going to church?

Everyone follows some beliefs because not everything in this universe is 100% explanable, so Athiests aren't anti-beliefs, they're anti-god, anti-organized religion and all the BS that goes on in "gods" name
