I watched this one documentation called "Bowling for Columbine" and the guy in there said that there is over 10 thousand deaths by a gun compared to the mere 100 in Canada. The guy went to this one city in Canada that is just right across the river from Detroit in US and he asked cops there when was the last death from a gun and the cop said a few years ago... he then said it was from a guy who came in from detroit. I laughed.

Bowling for Columbine was actually a really entertaining documentary. As for the politics part, i gave up trying to understand them when Bush was elected president.

Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" won the Oscar for best documentary. Unfortunately, it is not a documentary, by the Academy's own definition.

The injustice here is not so much to the viewer, as to the independent producers of real documentaries. These struggle in a field which receives but a fraction of the recognition and financing of the "entertainment industry." They are protected by Academy rules limiting the documentary competition to nonfiction.

Bowling is fiction. It makes its points by deceiving and by misleading the viewer. Statements are made which are false. Moore leads the reader to draw inferences which he must have known were wrong. Indeed, even speeches shown on screen are heavily edited, so that sentences are assembled in the speaker's voice, but which he never uttered. Bowling uses deliberate deception as its primary tool of persuasion and effect.

A film which does this may be a commercial success. It may be entertaining. But it is not a documentary. One need only consult Rule 12 of the rules for the Academy Award: a documentary is a non-fictional movie.

The point is not that Bowling is biased. No, the point is that Bowling is deliberately, seriously, and consistently deceptive.

The point is also not that Bowling is unfair, or lacking in objectivity. The point is far more fundamental: Bowling for Columbine is dishonest. It is fraudulent. To trash Heston, it even uses the audio/video editor to assemble a Heston speech that Heston did not give, and sequences images and carefully highlighted text to spin the viewer's mind to a wrong conclusion. If there is art in this movie, it is this art -- a dishonest art. Moore does not inform his readers: he plays them like a violin.
Way to be so weak minded you can't make your own mind up about subjects. Stupid jerkoffs.

3 fer 1!. Ice storm, Spinsanity and troll king together and we get Speaker of Trench!.

I think the point of Bowling for Columbine was to show that the amount of deaths caused by fire arms in the United States is sickening and doesn't have to happen. What it is and how it effects people is secondary to it's message.

Guns (supposedly the point of the film). A point worth making (although not strictly on theme here): Bowling's theme is, rather curiously, not opposed to firearms ownership.

After making out Canada to be a haven of nonviolence, Moore asks why. He proclaims that Canada has "a tremendous amount of gun ownership," somewhat under one gun per household. He visits Canadian shooting ranges, gun stores, and in the end proclaims "Canada is a gun loving, gun toting, gun crazy country!"

Or as he put it elsewhere, "then I learned that Canada has 7 million guns but they don't kill each other like we do. I thought, gosh, that's uncomfortably close to the NRA position: Guns don't kill people, people kill people."

Bowling concludes that Canada isn't peaceful because it lacks guns and gun nuts -- it has lots of those -- but because the Canadian mass media isn't into constant hyping of fear and loathing, and the American media is.

Which leaves us to wonder why the Brady Campaign/Million Moms issued a press release. congratulating Moore on his Oscar nomination.

Or does Bowling have a hidden punch line, and in the end the joke is on them?

I believe America is God's country. When it looks like America is going down on its last leg, then the end will come. I mean the end for everyone. America is synonymous with ancient Israel in bondage in Egypt. His Story repeats each time on a grander scale until finally, in the end, it's global. Most Western Europeans are Israelites and don't even know it. God said He would erase the memory of Israel's heritage.. and He has. Many European countries are predominately inhabited by select tribes of "the Lost Tribes" of Israel. Joseph (the one who was sold into slavery) had two sons that Jacob blessed as his own. Although Joseph's son Manasseh was the older of the two, Ephraim got the blessing of the firstborn. Ephraim was told that his descendants would become a multitude of nations and that Manasseh would become a great nation. Ephraim was the head tribe of the state of Israel before they were taken over by the Assyrians. The people of Manasseh stayed with Ephraim until it was time for their destiny. Now, looking back 100 years, in Britain, the saying was, 'the sun never sets on the British empire', Ephraim had become a multitude of nations..and out of Ephraim, Manasseh would become a great nation. America is Manasseh's lot.
