Either use Peer Guardian, don't have anything in your shared folder or don't share files. It's as simple as that to keep the RIAA off your back.
Is it wrong to download full albums? Sure, but it's also wrong to pay 19 bucks for a cd with only 3 good songs. Besides, like others have said before, with technology these days (cd burners and blank cds selling for cheap) there is no way the RIAA can stop the mass flow of free music. It's simply impossible, they cannot arrest everyone that downloads music. Suing 261 people is not going to scare the masses away from downloading. People will just find more loopholes to get around the system. I know they are angry about losing their money but that whole RIAA deal is a waste of time.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

what can i say, other than:
hahhahahha, in norway there are no law that make copying mp3's and movie's illegal!
      Throughout time, there’s been
      crimes, throughout our history
But not as great, as the one of late, affecting you and me
Once a nation proud and free, and now we’re weeping sorrow’s tears
Tragedy’s approaching, it’s worse than all your fears

      Come on my countrymen
Come on and take a stand
Don’t let ‘em take away your land

      the Wenger bus is coming
and all the kids are running
      from London to Manchester
      cos he's a child molester

On a related note, it seems that Hollywood is less-than-plussed about telesync movie rippers. They've started to put a little series of dots (look like cigarette burn marks, actually) in single frames of films that they distribute to theatres. These dots are in different places, depending on which theatre, effectively earmarking what theatres rips come from. It's pretty much indistinguishable to the movie viewer, since it's just a frame or two (films run at about 27 frames per second), but it's quite obvious when you break it down frame-by-frame. Check it out:

Sneaky, sneaky. However, knowing the amount of brainpower that is on the loose "in the scene," I'm sure someone will come up with a solution in the short term.
Music and medicine, I'm living in a place where they overlap.

conc, i think it would be fairly easy process to simply export the few earmarked frames and touch them up in photoshop before re-editting the frames back in. although, it would probably be an ordeal to find the earmarks in the first place.... but anyone who's checking the movie for copyright infringement will have to put out the same amount of effort to bust you.

You can always hire those people who search films for continuity errors to do it. They already pick through films looking for minute details. I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

these are my pretty graphs i just made, to help show things.

The above graph shows what the price of CD's should be. The Equilibrium price, where the supply curve and the demand curve intersect, is where the price should be set, in theory. It's the perfect place, which bennefits both consumers (they get what they want at a price they're willing to pay), and producers (they get a profit, and sell a lot).

This graph shows how the price is set now. Very expensive, and so less people buy them. Because CD's are higher priced than they should be, there's more being lost in buying one (opportuinity cost), and so less people decide to buy them. (notice the quantity demanded is down)

The final graph shows how much CD sales they're losing due to their outragiously priced CD's.

Now, you may say "Stark, changes in demand can be caused by substitutes, and MP3's are just that"

Well, you may be correct in saying that. Yes, some people don't buy CD's because they have the music, right there in front of them, for free. This is true, but it's also true to say "Hey, I'm using up disk space and wasting my time downloading all these songs, and I need a burner or an MP3 player to listen to these songs away from my computer, and if I actually had a life, I might want to listen to this music elsewhere" and that if CD's were much less, the opportunity cost would be much less to buy a CD, and so they might just buy a CD instead of downloading MP3's.

an eternity of fire for stealing wasn't implied

why should a thief have to suffer the same punishment for a murder?

So you think god has a grading scale. Maybe the thief gets 5 years?
