Then again in the ear, for good measure.
Wow, whats with hate? I remember when you first asked me and fruity who the Darkness were. I can't see whats wrong with them, firstly you can't take anything they do seriously so if you're annoyed by his outrageous costumes then you're looking at it from the wrong angle. Secondly they're making people who wouldn't of otherwise looked at 70's music into Led Zep, Judas Priest and Deep Purple etc, and thirdly they actually write decent songs.

Manic Street Preachers
Cool politicial/depressive lyrics, more like indie rock though. Listened to these guys a lot when I was 16-17.
(Chronological) description:
Generation Terrorists - Anthem rock
Gold Against The Soul - A bit dirtier
The Holy Bible - Suicide rock
Everything Must Go - Sellout rock
All albums afterwards are disgustingly horrible, just as they started wearing designer gear.
More from my old unused CD collection: The Stone Roses - The stone roses (dry and sweet), Second coming (blues rock) Terrorvision - How to make friends and influence people (thrash pop), Regular urban survivors (cinematic joke rock) The Wildhearts - P.H.U.Q. (Heavy and catchy) Ash - 1977 (This was alright) Mansun - Attack of the grey lantern (Dancy rock)
All these albums are at least 6 years old so they may not be as easily attainable during searches.
Feeder, feeder and more Feeder. If you're looking for stuff to download then try Just A Day, Piece By Piece and Buck Rogers (you probably already know that one). If you listen to any of their later stuff you've got to bear in mind their drummer topped himself in early 2002

Two bands I saw live and am pretty sure of that they're Brittish:
Suede, nice music to chill with while laying in the sun.
The Coral, a pretty good band as far as I can remember.
