Read the book. Christ, There is more than one ending for a reason. If you want to get mad about someone else's work then don't watch it or read it. Tolkien made it the way 'HE' wanted it not the way that a bunch of people he never met (in fact he was dead before most people here were even born).

And by far the best Character wasn't even in the movies. The Prince of Dol Amroth.
