Since this is TW Forums, you know the threads won't stay on topic...
The Jay Leno, Abe Lincoln examples are used to start at a place that's easy to understand. The point is you don't need to meet a person or get a personal letter from them to know that they exist. I realize that the web page is a parody, but that's what the page was implying. Now, there are people who believe that man never set foot on the moon, even though there are pictures and video...some people need more proof than others, I suppose.

As for abe.. it's easy to believe that he existed because we've all seen pictures, and heard about things he did. Now you say "but you could say the same about jesus". Point well taken, but now tell me that abe lincoln was the son of god... I still believe that he existed, I just think you're a fucking loon.
As I said, some of the documents of the New Testament were written shortly after Jesus' death (20-30 years). We have thosands of copies of these written records that date as far back as 50 years after his death. The short time gap and number of copies allows less room for error or embellishment because what was recorded could have been verified by eye witnesses to the events. That means Jesus' miracles and his claims could be verified by people who saw and heard them. They can also be verified with the many other documents written and copied.
It also would be difficult to create a mythical/legend version of Jesus' life in such a short time (20-30 years) since the claims were so outrageous. Imagine trying to convince people that a man who performed miracles lived 20 or 30 years ago. Difficult to impossible. And the people of the time were not all backwood, country imbeciles either. Much of the area was under the rule of a powerful and advanced nation, the Romans.
Further evidence might be found in your own personal experiences.
Again, nothing is proof, only sketchy evidence, but I'm sure you'll allow me some leeway after the "Kissing Hank's Ass" post.Last edited by geekbot; 02-17-2004, 08:36 PM.

Do you happen to know of any good links where I can read about texts from that time that document things that jesus did? or a book?http://www.trenchwars.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15100 - Gallileo's racist thread

gg, christian terrorists, for giving palestinian terrorists a run for their money. however, u have to admit that the palestinian terrorists totally pwn the christian ones. the jesus bombs are detonated with timers and remote devices, so they look like pussies compared to Hamas or Hezbollah.
As for mine:
The word of the Lord came to me: "What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel: 'The fathers eat sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge'? As surely as I love, declares the Sovereign Lord, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.

Geekbot, I was making a more serious point, if in a fairly flippant way.
The majority of people I've met who stand up for the truth of the bible don't even realise that the name jesus is a name that came about through translation. It is not the name that the guy "jesus" ever went by, or is it a name he would have ever heard. My point is that you can't really expect anyone to take the bible seriously if most people who talk about the bible don't even know that "jesus" was not his name.

bz, the best preserved accounts (most known copies, oldest preserved text, etc) are in the Bible. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are specifically on the life of Jesus and written around 55 to 80 AD.
It's online at: http://bible.gospelcom.net/.(Passage search for Matthew). If you have questions, click on the "Read the Commentary" link, or I'd be happy to give you my take.
GoldenPlums: Jesus is a translation of Joshua or something similar in Hebrew. "Jesus" is not what his mom called him but it's an English translation of his name. Which means it's pretty much his name. Mao Tze Dong's "real" name is something that can't be typed on this forum. In fact, it's translated sometimes as Mao Tze-Dung, sometimes as Mao Tze-Tung. As far as English goes, I would say it's acceptable to say that any of these IS his name.

"...right, because jesus likes to reserve that privilige for himself."
Doesn't matter what Jesus reserves for himself, if you (though you obviously don't) believe Jesus is God, you follow his teachings. His teachings forbid violence. No matter what the twisted actions of extremist Christians are, Christianity is a pacifist religion.

"And then thee rocks were shaked, and thunderous wrath poured out from the seas and all things trembled. Be it thy foundation for life and have all things connected with thee. Know that thine spirit lives within thee and all surroundings and that thine spirit dwells in thy abyss of Earth. Satan will call to you from the depths and point thee towards the heavens and will seek to use you as an underling to destroy my work. All who do Satan's will will be pitied to eternal damnation and thee will think twice about thy past and burn in juice."

This one has been used in a lot of movies and songs:
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.5: Da1andonly> !ban epinephrine
5: RoboHelp> Are you nuts? You can't ban a staff member!

Did you make this up or did you get it from some sci-fi book?
Gen 46 only has 50 verses and the context therein regards Joseph giving his father and brothers land in Goshen.
