How many of you guys are going to school for programming or computer science.. Or how many do u have a job for it..

The programming classes here are pretty much the only reason I haven't dropped out of high school yet. (That and my chem teacher is really foxy, unfortunately she's married.)
I was at RIT for a year and a half, majoring in Comp Sci. It was mind numbing. I realized I don't want to spend the rest of my life in a cubicle under fluorescent lighting programming some shitty piece of software that I could care less about. That's just me though.
I'm heading to a different school in the fall, and I'll be majoring in something like IT but with more media/design involved.
Long story short, programming is not for everyone. If you want to go into it because you think you want to make video games, chances are you're not cut out for it. Hell, even if you are cut out for it, chances are you won't like it. I'm really pessimistic about the field though. It just bored the shit out of me.

Wow... the exact same thing is happening to me right now.
I thought I'd like to study in computer sciences because I enjoy playing computer games since I was really young and I thought that I could program some games and other useful stuff. Unfortunately, what I've been doing at school totally sucked (and so did the teacher but that's another story). The working environment was discouraging and there were only 4 girls out of 120 students :P . We were programming some applications with no specific nor useful purpose. I always thought that I'd have a nice career as a programmer but I never really knew what most of the programmers do. I was kinda depressed during that semester and I failed all my courses :/ (I quitted school a bit after mid term)
Maybe my shcool was the problem but I did not enjoy my experience
My brother is a programmer. I took a look at what he is doing during his daily routine and it scared me; I knew I couldn't stand that kind of job. He is about to quit his job too lol. He's looking for a re-orientation of his career.
So... If you want to go for computer sciences/programming, think about it twice
I'm in a 3 year computer programmer program, and after that I can take a few courses at another college to get my Comp Science diploma.
I enjoy it so far, and I think it's going to be ok. I guess I'm one of the only peoplethat can sit in the same spot for 5 hours straight programming some shit thing. :P
Yeah, its basically computer science for dumb people- it stresses less on the developing and programming aspects, and focuses more on the hardware and use of existing software.
I'm a senior majoring in Computer Science. I will have my Bachelor's degree in CS in a semester, but like these other guys I can't really say it's all that much fun. I don't see myself doing it for a job anymore, and plan on pursuing grad school in a different field.
Well im in computer science right now (high school) we are making programs in Pascal which is pretty easy.. And fun. I plan on going to college for something around computers but im not sure if it will be that. I also am into Graphic Design and Webdesign im going to a college for 9 days to learn some things about Graphic Design $
What exactly do programmers do? Like what kind of programs do they work with etc.. Because im a little bit lost right now..

I forgot to mention. 50% of people in CS are fucking losers who you want to hit with a brick. One of the kids in my class (who, oddly enough, always gets better grades on his projects. I kill him on exams, though. LOOK I CAN BRAG AREN'T I SMART PLEASE VALIDATE MY EXISTANCE ) constantly asks me the most retarded questions that can be found using google's "I'm feeling lucky". He also thinks those buttons that say "HOW DO YOU AMUSE AN IDIOT? ANSWER ON REVERSE SIDE" are hilarious.
Ice, the CS class you're taking is a fucking joke. From what I hear, it hasn't changed a bit since I took it, and back then it was laughable at best. That class is nothing like the real deal so don't decide you want to go into comp sci based upon your experiences in it. And last but not least, Buffington is a dickwad.
