  • Picking in ?go base

Well just to point out, according to the advice everyone here gives to new players, it is stated that they should play in javs, wbduel, javduel, elim, baseelim, and of course base in order to get "known" before joining any elite squads. Well within the last several weeks, ?go base has picked mainly veteran players and thus leaving slim chances for new players or even intermediately experienced players to play and leaving them behind spec.

Yes, we do have lots of players that play in every arena specified to get "known". But picking in ?go base is not allowing the new players to learn, experience, or even show off any of their talents. None of the new players including myself have not had the opportunity to display our skill or even to learn by playing a game in order to get onto a respected squad. Is there anyway that we can improve this and at least get one or two rookie players in per game?

The new bots that allow for the quick 10-12 minute games isn't that long of a game. Many new players wait hours and still don't get picked. Because of the overall quickness of each game now, I really think one new player per team should be allowed to play.

So basically, and forgive me for speaking bluntly, you are saying that because you suck so much, you want every game played in base to suck a little more then it already does so you can play? Seriously dude, it's not our fault you aren't known, and all you have to do is sit around and become friends with someone who caps often.

What really determines whether a person is "new" or not? I get picked pretty well every game I dont have NP on and I am the newest there is. I tend to cap alot now and I usually give new names a shot, just wait patiently and dont beg. You'll get a shot and make it count. Or ask RB if you can join they'll put you in to see how you do atleast, hehe.

New player as in one who has recently began playing. I never beg nor do I whine to get a position. Just want to help out new players such as myself to get some play time and experience with basing action by expressing my concern through this.

If you mean I want every game to suck a little more now, then I take back having one or two rookies a game and have one every other game possibly. So that of course there are the exciting games. Just that these days, I see no rookie or intermediate player playing anymore. Not even No Surrender members or other squads like them who I am confident that they are quite "competent" at basing get to play.

Just so you know viral, what you're doing here counts as whining.

Of course, Vehicle's whining too. ?go base has always been a mixture of knowns and unknowns, and it will never be "vet" enough for the vets or "new" enough for the newbies. If ever game had lots of new people in it, the "basing experience" would be pretty watered down. If new people were never let play the game would stagnate and die. Your best bet is to not play during peak hours, ?go base almost never has enough between the euro and East US peaks, and you'll get to play just by being there. Don't come in to a ?go base with 20 people in spec, and expect to get picked. The high numbers matches are for competition, they're not for giving out gifts.

i am not for newbies rights. they gotta make it big on their own. it is entirely possible, but a repuation wont just fall out of the sky. u gotta work for it. spider in pub till it makes you sick, win hosted events or elim, use the forum, learn other zones, and be persistant but not annoying in go base.

At peak times base is hard to get picked in, when they barely swing 16 players, its fairly easy.

The worst thing you can do is get picked and screw up. The other day I log in and?find za gophar so I follow him to base while in ticker. Immediatly I was put in the game as shark becuase the shark that was playing was afk. I did poorly so now ill never get sharked again (on this name)

yeah, i used the forums as tool to spread Jeromism to the masses.

Now they name ?go base teams after me.

                And those teams lose.

But on-topic, I try to fit in newbies alot. When i have a solid lineup, i let a spider or two be newbies. I did this a few minites ago with Helping and a guy named spanky090 or something.

I agree with Za Gopher. Don't just stick yourself to ?go base. Play with 1 ship and play it throughout the zone. What I did to get better at shark, I player a whole variety of different events and arenas. I played shark in pub, base, base-elim, bomberman, supershark, hosted base events etc.

Playing in pub especially, is really good I think. You can play it anytime (no waiting like ?go base), play against all the ships, and build up friendships as well.

I like how you said friendships when you were talking about pub...Most pubbers are cocky bastards that think they are the best and if you kill them or screw up they flip on you calling you a newb and other words.

Whats wrong with what I said? My first squad was a pub squad and I made quite a few friends. After a few years playing this game, I have more friends from public. Maybe your doing something wrong.

Yea I agree when I started up I was in Alpha*X, Owned by CrimsonX and Jr5, it was great and we met alot of friends, but things have changed since then. Sure you could find some friends, but its alot harder then before.

Yeah basing is really popular at the primetime euro hours for some reason. But if you live in the USA evenings and nights, primetime USA hours, normally ?go base is pretty much at its minimum so if you show up you'll have a decent chance of getting in simply because there won't be any other options . It's hard to come up with a system that would solve the problem you address. However, for specific individuals it's not too hard. Basically to get picked people just have to recognize your name. You can do this by playing elim and squad duels and such, but seriously the absolutely quickest way, and the way that doesn't require any talent at all, is simply to post on the forum (as long as your forum name is the same as your SS name). If you're hardcore enough to come to the forum and make posts than you've probably logged enough hours to know what you are doing, and people will give you the chance to show your talents simply because they've seen your name before unlike the other random "newbies".

Other than that until you are known and people are actively trying to pick you, you really do have to speak up and say "I'm available" or people are just going to assume you're some random newbie who got lost or at one point wanted to play but has long since given up and left to go watch TV. Eventually pepole will start feeling pity for you. If you start spamming "pick me for jav!! Pick me!!" you won't get the pity and won't get picked.

If you are playing during the prime euro hours when like 36 people are in base though, I wouldn't even really bother. Practice your game somewhere else or just talk on spec with all the other guys not getting picked and maybe you'll start to get known. Takes some time.
