The higher you finish in the standings, you get more deaths in the final. So finishing high in the standings already determines you're pretty good, good enough to win (like lets say if you finish number 1 in standings). And then you get more deaths on top of that?

Have to agree with Ricko, that doesn't sound fair or like it would be good.

ya the death thing is sort of bad.. it basically predetermines how a playoff would go giving a huge advantage to the top players. I suggest instead doing a playoff elim keeping it to 10 deaths / or maybe 20 deaths since it is playoff game. Instead of changing the death aspect .. why not do something like say they get to enter like on a time based setup.. Top pick gets to go /!late like up to 5 minutes after game starts but still has same death count.. Allow the lower top tier of say top 20 players or something to enter in increments a little later than those who start at beginning. Number one would enter last..

It's a championship match... ask yourself what is the purpose of a championship.

1. Is it to reward the best players so they can win easier?
2. or is it to find the best players by having everyone on equal ground?

If this is a roman style arena then the answer is number 1... primarily entertainment that is stacked and mostly meaningless.

current season should not be included, it was announced 3 days to the end and obviously the level of play will be different when people know something is on the line. Specially when other people already have like 50-100 games played.

In my opinion, having differing number of deaths would be game breaking. I see two options here:
1) You should not incentivize players to aim for a higher ranking, because after all, getting into the top 20 is already going to be a task, with the players just out of range desperately trying to claw in and the players barely qualified needing to hang on to their spot. Being top 5 is a comfortable cruise into the championship, which is just the entry into the greater goal: trying to win this championship. Pre-rankings shouldn't matter as much.
2) Top X number of players are given a bye round, whereas the other players have to scrum it out in preliminary match where X players are eliminated prior to entering the real championship.

I agree with the multiple people that said this current season shouldn?t count 2 days before it ended. I wont say this was your intention Ogron but it does look fishy when you are like top 3-5 currently in wb.

Elim has been poppin' all year, TWDT league has been going all year, it's the 2019 season, and January and February are part of 2019, I don't see why it wouldn't count, especially if we're not doing variable deaths, finishing #1 or #20 is the same. Should be very easy for anyone good to qualify through the other 4 seasons. Some people will have played S8 but not S10, or vice-versa.

Top 20 is a very low bar.

I'd rather include 10 months of elim play than 8. If you're not satisfied with that, you're welcome to not participate.

What happens if everyone doesn't participate? would you just be alone then? in your own championship? or is there a threshold cut off for none participators before you decide maybe your way or the highway isn't the best approach? Like 80% of people?

Hey I think this is a cool idea and want to participate. I think it's fair to not count the current season based on what people are saying though.

Have Qan extend the current season 2 weeks then, that's plenty of time to get a high confidence rating. Lots of people put work in January and February, and it's part of 2019.

For what it's worth, I think whatever the current formula/system is better than the early 2000s one, which was decent.

Thanks, MS and I worked on it quite a bit. It could still use tweaking, though, particularly for edge cases. If you or Ease or anyone else can find flaws or ways to improve, it's definitely appreciated. Didn't get much in the way of comment when we posted this before. But not many people like to get into the numbers that seriously. You can play with test values in the boxes to show the outcome in the current and old formula. One thought I had (but haven't been able to talk with MS about) is increasing the KO bonus, as eliminating multiple players seems to be correlated pretty well with skill. Or, a slightly more complicated approach: KO bonus based on the rating of the player KO'd.

I guess it should be mentioned, Ogron isn't associated with TW staff, and this league isn't explicitly endorsed by TW staff, though that doesn't mean it's any less "real." For example, there's no reason Championship winners shouldn't appear on the map, receive awards and so on. But not being a member of staff, he's also not bound by our code of conduct. You can play or not play his league, as you like.

As long as it doesn't interfere with TWL, TWDT and so on, there's no reason why anyone can't or shouldn't start a league. It's incredibly healthy for the game.

Extending season seems like a solid compromise. 2 weeks (until the end of February) should be enough for someone even with 0 games this season to hit enough games for 100% confidence if they're serious about it.

It would also have the added benefit of aligning seasons with months, so that there's less of a question about when seasons start and end. March/April for S9, May/June for S10, etc.

And it would also give a chance to firm up any details, and build hype. If there are no serious objections, let's extend to end of February.

Very weird stuff.. does this mean he can exclude anyone he wants to seeing as he is not endorsed by staff??.. how does a league happen that is not endorsed by staff anyways? I mean I like the freedom you are allowing in one aspect.. but have concerns in another. I don't quite see how leagues can be separated being "real" and not official at the same time.. especially in our PUBLIC elim arena.

I would like to participate in this if it happens.. but do you see the slippery slope I'm referring to?
