  • Trench Wars fund WAS in dire straits (THANK YOU, EVERYONE!)

I'll cut to the chase: Trench Wars is broke. (EDIT: was.)

Click image for larger version Name:	were_broke.png Views:	647 Size:	21.6 KB ID:	1366280

11/22 update: $135.12 in recurring donations; $2581.26 total in the fund. THANK YOU EVERYONE! We are stable.

At one time, generous folks put together large prize pools for league wins, and many equally-generous winners chose to donate their winnings toward server costs. This has pretty much been the only thing paying for the server over the past few years.

Meanwhile, traditional donations have been reduced to essentially nothing. Currently there is one donor giving $5 per month. Aside from a single one-off $10 donation in May, these are the only donations for the entirety of 2024 so far.

We haven't had a large league prize pool in quite a while. If we're only taking in $5 a month (or, to be more accurate, $4.37 after fees), you can guess which direction our finances will go.

Currently, we're paying $179.34 per month for our two servers. We've already paid for September, and with what we have left, thankfully, October and November are covered.

While extremely hypothetical, as I don't imagine it coming to this, if we receive no donations, Trench Wars (and Chaos/League 4v4) will cease all operations on December 1, 2024.

It's up to the community now: Do you want to keep TW going?

If the answer's yes, please consider donating. How much has the spaceship game been worth to you over the years?

A small recurring donation—even $5 a month—has a bigger impact than a one-time because it makes it plain to see that we either have enough coming in each month, or we don't. If as a community we can get to $180/mo in recurring donations, we're covered. That's just 40 more people donating $5 a month. Will you be one of them?

We offer thank-you gifts of PubBux if you use our donations site: https://trenchwars.org/donations/

Or you can send directly to our PayPal address: Trenchwars_donate(at)yahoo.com

    Thanks for considering.

I think we should use all the remaining money and run pizza tournaments this month. No point flogging a dead horse.

You should have listened to me about selling names from the biller, people would have paid $50-100 to support the server if they could have reset a cool name, I'm not sure about now though, sad to hear but atleast FrogRace will still be up, Keep Yourself Safe people <3

No problem donating but can we get an actual cost break down so i'm not just donating to blackhole like before?

          Yep, of course.

          $115.54 - game server
$63.80 - bot and web server (not including trenchwars.com, which Wirah pays for)
          -----------
          $179.34 total/mo

Thank you to those who put in donations so far: a $15 recurring and a $20 one-time.

After fees, we're now at $23 a month incoming, with $157 to go, or about 13% of the way to continued solvency.

Rather donate to this than Wikipedia.

Just need to spam this link enough, I'm sure we'll make it.

I just set up a recurring donation. Does paying through a cc benefit us more than through paypal in terms of paying less fees?

Maybe setting an end date for the game and then sending out an email notifying all past and present players of its end date and a proposed "the last dance league". Set it so that the final ends a week before the game ends.

At some point we need accept the inevitable.

Why is the pubbux coupon so cheap? I got 750k pubbux for my $50 donation. I spend that on !poker in about 3 minutes.

We had a good influx of donations since the last update.

Now we have a total of $55.75 in recurring payments, or 31% of our goal.

There was also $280 in one-time donations, including a $180 donation that covered one month of hosting by itself.

That has us covered through February so far. Thanks, all.

There's been substantial inflation since we last updated the donation table. It may be one reason why donations fell off. At one point we had some steady donors who used it as a way to keep their accounts floating.
