Here's where you're going wrong:

One of the few constructive memories I have about school was my history teacher drawing the political spectrum on the whiteboard. He drew a line the length of the board, in the middle were the wishy-washy, maybe, take-it-or-leave-it liberals, just on the inside right was the Labour party and on the inside left but slightly further out was the Conservative party. On the far right was the socialists and off the whiteboard to the left was the Comminists. On the right, out the window, across the field, over the road, through the corn field and past the Church was the Nazi party.

This has got nothing to do with who fought against the evil regime. Communism is still a viable political option, even though it has been shown that it doesn't work. Russia's brand of Communism was extreme to say the least, majorly induced by Stalin's paranoia and his insistance on bumping off anyone who had an ounce of political power however this isn't taboo. What is taboo was a short, moustachiod Austrian's decision to set up death camps and exterminate anyone who didn't like, including two thirds of the world's Jewish population and anyone who lived near him. There is no fucking way you can compare the Nazi party to anything, anywhere, ever, let alone another political regime

Again true, but do you want to say a short also muctached Georgian Stalin doing much of the same isn't a taboo? Ok, he didn't kill jews but sure as hell killed and worked to death other people that weren't good enough for his regime. Infact Soviets killed more civillians than Nazis.
