What's making someone a VET ??

a vet is someone with true skill. me, for example. i never played this game until january of this year, so when i used Jerome in-game, people were already like WOAH WOAH you that jerome from the forums? THE jerome?

To me a good dueler means nothing, I dont concider duelers "elite/vet" the dueling part is created for newbies who just enter the game, shoot, hey i got a kill! lets play this some more.. you play this on your own. while basers play together, all have their own purpose in a team. I think this is way more elite then just having 5 warbirds shooting 5 other warbirds, and no I dont base because I think it is elite, I like it. I have been playing this game for about 6 years, had allot different zones entered TW after 5 years of playing this game, I heard about the basing wich was very good organized and I liked it allot so sticked here for the basing only.

aint just shooting bro. u need 5 "good" wbs or u will lose the game. in base if u play with 3 good spiders & 1 less good u still can win the game.

Yeah, in DD EACH player is damn important. When you're playing 4vs4 wb's, each player has to get those 10 kills. They all require individual skills. While in basing, you can win with a good terr, 2 good sharks, and 5 sucky spiders.

A vet is someone who is self aware of the TW and SS community, has been active in that community and has shown they have taken an active and postivite role in one or more league over a span of many years, that's what a true vet is to me. Whether a person is a "vet" or not will always rest on the specific players interactions so I don't think you can have a universal list of them or criteria to judge people.

This definition of a veteran player is quite good, but for me it could be someone most people know about and know what he/she is doing while playing.
However, "vet" is also used for people who think they become someone cool if they are arrogant egotripping assholes with a dictionary name. Much like TK said, "vet" is not always a good thing to be (called).
Another definition could be that a vet is someone everyone wants in their squad

Ok my view, a vet is someone who has all of this:

- won at least 2 TWLD's
- MVP's at least one TWLD playoff round
- Has a nick taken from the English dictionary
- is either American or Finnish
- Has played for over 4 years
- Has over 4k of usage
- Either gave up talking 2 years ago or only talks to give other people shit
- Dropped out of school (to play)
- Has been mod at some stage but got tired of abusing and random banning newbies (didn't get axed, because of l33tn3s)
- Ever had a elim rating that was 2 times higher than the rating of number 2

I mean come on, you are a vet or you aren't a vet..

Anyways, the people the are "real" vets hate it when you call them "vet".

I think everyone has their own opinions about other players.. therefor for example "Awesome" can be a vet in the eyes of some guys.. but I ofc still see him as a random nubian... Dudes. Vet has no meaning anymore. It is one of the most bastardised words out there. Think about it. What does newbie mean? These are now simply derogatory/honourary terms used for instant gratification during inane arguments/conversations.

You can have your own meaning of vet, but there will never be a single true meaning. For consistency, I prefer to use Troll King's definition as it at least has some roots in the real world, where the word originated (veteran).

However although you can't explicitly define a vet/newbie, it is possible to say some people are more *likely* to be a vet than others. It's just a fuzzy term that has a blurred meaning. When starting a squad, you could say "I am just going to recruit vets". People will kinda know what you mean.

There are probably a set of definite factors that would make someone more likely to call someone a vet. These are, how long he has been around, skill, experiences, etc etc. Mostly, people will give a different weighting towards each factor.

So in conclusion, if you want to be correct, use the topic title "What is your opinion of what VET means ??" and you would be more objective. However who cares since this is an internet game forum where objectivity means nothing and everyone just wants to splurge undefined things such as "WHO IS THE BEST" only because it provokes some sort of emotional feeling that is just bait for replies.
