My belief is that this is a lose-lose situation for the community.
Actually, i find people with absolutely nothing to contribute besides negativity and "pure hatred" far more disruptive to the tw community than a simple tournament ever could be. Play or dont play, but please spare us the incessant ramblings of an angry angst filled teenager. thx.
Being the awesome guy that I am, i decided to help you out with some credibility. Rather than draw names out of a hat (which is both silly and easily tampered with) it's much simpler to assign each player a seeding. (just seed them a 1, 5 or 10 -- based on which of the three tiers of players you've got (like shitty no names, people we know but aren't so hot, probable winners))
Since you want to narrow it down to 10 players (which makes no sense btw, all that does it give somebody a BYE round way to late it the tourny, the smarter way to do it is have 4 different rounds with 25 players in each and have a single winner come out for the finals. that way you can still hype up the semis and quarters but the quarter would have an even number in each of the last few rounds (finals being 2, semis 4, quarters 8 and the final 16 before that -- with 4 from each round)
That way it decreases BYE's that actually help a player do better and sticks all the BYE's in week 1 and 2, where you're basically just weeding out the crappy players.
With that being said I drew up a nice little tourny plan for you and seeded everybody, i'm sure you won't use it but whatever, it's here and it's about as fair as you're going to get.
Basics of each round (A/B/C/D)
-You have 12 first round duels and 1 guy gets a bye (make the bye guy a guy with a legit shot at winning, i.e. a "10"
-6 duels in round 2 with someone getting a BYE again, this time it obviously needs to be someone different and idealy on the complete otherside of the bracket.
-round 3 is 3 duels with 1 BYE. Again you make sure that it's 100% guranteed to be someone who hasn't had a BYE.
-Round 4 is 2 duels (and all the BYE's have been weeded out)
-Round 5 is 1 duel and the "Championship" of the Round (Round A/B/C/D)
Then the winners of the 4 rounds play each other in the tourny semi finals, then the finals. So you can hype up those 3 weeks (the quarter finals being the Round Finals.

Yes, please overlook the other free online games that got destroyed by cash tournaments because of cheaters. Pretend they didn't exist. I already said I'll watch the tournament to see if 100 people can be trusted to play cleanly, so if you can kindly fuck off until then, I'll do the same.
EDIT: If you'd pull your lips off of staff's ass and have a look around the other forums you'd find that I contribute plenty of positive content, just not where it isn't due.

Even if every person playing in this tournament pulled out the softice, aimbots and lagcheats to win the money, who really cares? Its not like anyone loses anything for participating except perhaps xsliderx, and i assume he has already contemplated the inevitability that some people may try to cheat.(and as far as im concerned its solely up to him to decide whether or not he cares to moderate this effectively, and if he doesnt then may the best cheater win!) People have been trying to cheat in twl/twd for years now so why be so naive to think that money would be the only motivating factor here, and evidently, TW continues to thrive despite these rogue rule breakers(who, more often than not, are noticed, checked and banned. congrats!) But by all means, if you are the type of person who smashes his keyboard into bits everytime he loses to somebody who "cheats", then please follow your therapists advice and stay in spec.
This being said, the winner of this tournament will still be someone who is relatively well known as a competative wb (epi, exe etc) since skilled veterans will always be better than scores of cheating newbies.
P.S Your little jab at my thread expressing thanks to staff was certainly uncharacteristic of such a positive, upstanding and valued member of trench wars such as yourself. I guess i was way off base with my earlier statements. [/sarcasm]
Cash dueling tournaments have been held in Subspace before. A few years ago, a famous SVS player named Garcon had a cash dueling tournament. I believe the winner (Rage) got $100 USD while the 2nd place guy (Jinxi) got a $50 gamepad shipped to him.
Pro had a prize of 500$ and IML had a prize of 250$ (which my squad happened to win) last season.

I've heard about this before, but it's kinda waste of the money it seems, if its given to a squad (not sure how many players an svs squad uses but) if it has about 10+ members the money is kinda stupid if you have to share it with people on the other side of the world.. what did your squad do with the money?

Well, basically its given to the captain who can divide it how he wants. Thats the "rule" anyway. We only had 9 members (squad was called The Nine) so we would have gotten ~25$ if we wanted but we donated the money to a fund called the Childrens Cancer Fund (Barncancerfonden).
