Well alot of staff aren't basers that are as hardcore as some of you(i know its hard to believe). This results in some Zh's who just start the bot with random caps or start it with the people who ask first. Also alot of "good" captains don't like to captain anymore.I don't think it has anything to do with laziness of staff to be honest. I think theres been a shift of people who play go base now to more newer people who want to get experience in other ships besides spider. So when they cap they make themselves jav and then refuse to change until it is too late. For instance Tribal Fury makes himself jav all the time. I tell him not to and he just says well i will for a few and if i do bad maybe i'll change. So With newer players, "vets" going afk from go base, and the community that changes rapidly has caused this problem.

I have to say that some people who aren't on staff but have bot access do pick better captains, for example, MicroStar. Although it is probably because you had pointed out already, many staffers don't base and hardly know who good captains are. I think that the blacklist and/or statistics would be good

I think the problem in ?go base is the non-competitive games, which are caused because of javs/warbirds or whatever other ship beside spider, shark and terrier.
I would say make restrictions to 1terr, 2sharks and 5spiders to bring back some competition in ?go base, but I understand this would be too radical thus maybe it would be a better idea to have a 1 special ship limit.

Your hate on for staff aside, as long as you keep it general it's fine. I have my own personal list of people I won't cap in ?go base, and I get yelled constantly for it. Where I agree with you that there's a signficant problem with the caps in ?go base, I think the problem lies more in the mentality of the new players, then it does in the people picking captains.

Yes I get annoyed when I come find some BS game and check the startinfo and it's some very new ZH who I've never seen base, and who didn't stick around to see how the game turned out, but in all honesty lopsided games are simply going to happen no matter how careful you try to be picking captains. Lopsidedness isn't the problem, it's the captain douchebaggery. I've walked in on way too many games where the captain only takes captain to jav or warbird, not to win. We need stats reports on captaincy posted publicly again, so people might make at least a tiny effort not to totally fuck a game up just so "I can fly teh yellow ship with teh bombz". I've said before that there's THREE people I'd trust in javelin over putting them in spider and NO ONE I'd put in warbird over having them in spider. You want to practice your javving? Go to a pub, don't make seven other people suffer through this shit. At the very least, change your team up if you're starting to get stomped, don't wait to the last minute and don't fucking give up.

Player douchebaggery is on the rise too. In the very early days of organized basing, the community was small enoug that if you jumped ship because you were losing, you were ostracized by the community. You can still talk to anyone who was there about "mitch the bitch" and get a laugh. With the expansion of basing though, shit like this has become par for the course. I can think of a dozen people who pull this kind of crap on a regular basis, and STILL manage to get picked for teams. We really need some asshat statistics here for captains and players. Give people with botpower a way to put a blackmark, or comment on a captain/player, so that when that person is picked as captain/player, the person who picked them is informed of their past history of incredible bs.

Yes maybe 5 spiders only is the best thing. Then I never have to play ?Go base again. Maybe then some staffers would be arsed to host real basing matches in a private arena again.

I personaly notice that lots of times wen a mod or ZH asks for caps allmost nobody reacts so it isn't allways the fault of the ZH. Maybe making/adjusting a bot that keeps track of the caps so that they can't be capped again the next round would be an idea to solve this

Yes thing is, people who are PLAYING in base, want to play base. So they know who can cap and will be patient if noone is available at that moment (maybe even force someone to cap, they know will be able to put together a team).
A ZH is just there to take a call and probably would like to go on with whatever he was doing. And thus a staffer won't wait longer than a few minutes to get a game going. (it gets nasty though when you get punished for capping yourself once in a while when you have botpower <_< )

I cant even practice in any other ship i wanted to practice.
Go base is just a washed up dark corner that wants to be the good old priv basing days, which will never be.

I agree with the whole bad captain thing but you have to understand more than one person starts the bot. I'm not 100 percent sure why you recieved a warning for saying that but if you have any complaints it is best that you send it to the complaints email address. We are in discussion on what to do about base captains and what not. Maybe a blacklist of some sort or something like matchbot responds with the statistics of the captain the person tries to captain beforehand. IE: Zerzera has put himself in a special ship 95% of the time and has lost 90% of the games he has captained. The average time 4:00 to 10:00. Maybe it will make the person choosing the captain to think not about that person. Done for now if you have any questions or comments respond. Ok thanks and have a good day

I wrote a decent complaint mail a few days ago. Didn't get a response yet ... makes me doubt how seriously those complaint mails are taken. Or if that inbox ever is getting checked.

Sure isn't when I am there :P but I think that other ships can be as useful as spiders, but it's harder to get that working. So people just take the easy way out and do the 5 spider thing.
If you have 3 specialists in lanc, jav and warbird you can beat any average ?go base team.
