  • This is for Dialup Users

Ok this thread is for shitty dialup players.

    First off,

You shoudln't be on dialup. A broadband+ connection costs about the same as if you are using a dialup subscription like Aol. If your to poor to buy a broadband+ connection get your lazy ass off the computer and get a job.

    Second,

Having a dialup connection makes you have a major advantage on other users that are using broadband+. For instance today a player with the name Relativity_8(or somethin) was playing in public. His bullets come from 4 inches from his ship. I don't know about you guys but i can't play like that. Ever since i've gotten a broadband+ connection i feel cheated each time i play. I'm sure a few others may feel the same way.

    Finally,

I believe the lag limit should be lowered to atleast 300 MS and packetloss about 2.0% or something. These laggots are ruining the game. Also why wouldn't it be possible to have a major router or something for North America and South America. Maybe it would relieve some stress? But maybe not.
I know this will never happen because DoCk> and PriitK don't change settings alot and don't want to. But I mean something should be done. Maybe even some public bots that spec the laggot whores.

    Conclusion,

Anyways i'm just going on and on. reply with your hatered/support material. Cause I enjoy them both.

    Dear Pio,
If you could only understand that the qualtity and the price vary from country to country. For instance the adsl i'm using costs quite much compared to other countries/cities, also i'm having a hard time to play due to ploss (s2c 7.0-10).

If i would dump my adsl and switch to 56k and some other isp, i could actually play without such ploss.

Lag is a part of online games, and we need to accept it.

Inducing lag is fun too, try it out Pio.

ADSL 512k in Finland (just about the best connection for online gaming, because higher than 512k just costs too much) costs more than a 10mb cable in Sweden. I believe the finnish broadband connection prices are high.

Blood is right, finnish broadband connection prices are high. My father's company took ADSL 2MB/sec, and now we are having that on our home too, and price is very high.

Cable modem's prices are okey, and it's good for online gaming. ADSL 512k is better but costs more than cable modem.

              I only have 56k because I can't get broadband in my area. I only have 170 .1 .2 on my 56k anyway.

                  Pio-

Some people are not as fortunate as to be able to get better connections, it may be because it costs to much or its not offered where they live. In my case its not offered, I live 5 miles out of town and nobody offers it. So am I suppose to not be able to play because I CANT get a better connection?

And have you ever played with 300ms of lag, its not as glorious as you think.

Location is a bigger factor than bandwidth. Bear in mind how old this freaking game is; 6 years ago the only way you could get "broadband" is by playing from work or school.

When I am at home I use dial-up (MSN) to play ss and have always had a constant 220-250 with no ploss. The only times there is trouble is when a major route to the east coast gets fucked up, in which case even the broadband users will suffer.

On the other hand, everyone on the west coast of north america is a freaking mexican jumping bean. Conclusion: ban everyone in the PST time zone. ;x

Then there are people in countries with shitty telecom infrastructures (turkey, korea) or have to go through more than one ocean to get to finland (australia). There's nothing we can do about their lag.

Subspace was designed to work fine with slow modems. You could play it on a 14.4 no problems.

Even today with a good 28.8 you can get 250 pings with the right provider and computer.

A well installed computer helps though. A few bizarre stats I can't make sense of :

External modem with AOL provider in the middle of nowhere in France connecting to Trench Wars (AOL is the worst ISP you can get for TW, the packets being routed to the server but only after going via the USA) :

Parents computer, Windows 98 on AMD K6-2 500, lot of useless crap on the machine (nothing that eats bandwidth) : 450 ping.
My computer, Windows 2000 on Athlon XP+ 2000 with the same modem on the same phoneline : 270 ping.

DSL modem, Wanadoo provider in France connecting to TW :

                              Main computer, Windows 2000 on Athlon XP+ 2000 : 110 ping.
Main computer, Windows 98 emulation running on Linux Mandrake 8.2 : 60 ping.
Main computer, Windows 2000 on Athlon XP+ 2000, routed to the Internet via a Linux server on a Duron 700 computer using the DSL modem : 100 ping.

                              Wish I understood
