I thought a majority of America lived in an urban or suburban area
    I'd rather be SubSpacing.

play cs where 56k players are sitting ducks who don't stand a chance

or enjoy the experience of subspace (actually only trench wars for that matter) as it is, with all of its lagginess

Well shit, I can't wait till TWD. I can't imagine how bad my lag is gonna be. And for those of you that know me (however few that may be) you know how bad it can be. Especially since i'm pretty sure I'm gonna be basing.

Then there are people in countries ... or have to go through more than one ocean to get to finland (australia). There's nothing we can do about their lag.

              k two questions:
              a) what planet are you on?
              b) have you ever been called eurotrash?
It is so true. Even if I use a 2 MB/sec DSL (from work) I will still have a lag greater than 300ms. Basically the signals have to travel from my PC (located in Sydney), thru U.S than to Euro. If you know a bit about Telecommunication (which is my major in college) you will understand why.
It is just very sad how some people know so little and whine so much.

There are only 2 things you can do about lag in SS:

              1) Ban all the people from outside Euro
              2) Change the speed of light

              Wont die, no surrender 2

Lag is a part of all online games, so why to send stupid comments about it? We just have to accept it..

From Melbourne, I average 340ms, yet my ploss is hardly ever above 0.1 + 0.1

With such lag, the only noticeable problems are when people are shot at the very rear of their ship, rocketing javs, when there is more than 16 people crammed into the base, and in wormhole.

Fair enough there are an abundance of scenarios where you will be screaming, "That's bullshit!" at the monitor in a futile attempt at making your murderer spontaneously explode after you've just had a disputable kill go against you, but not even the Matrix was perfect. You just have to learn to be content with respawning.

Now if packet loss was the problem, then you'd have a right to complain. A few hundred ms of lag is nothing next to even 5% ploss.

                        dial-up from US

                        02.12.06
                        1. dial-up 56k cost about $12/mo so, is quite a bit cheaper than $50/mo, especially since the dialup is unlimited hours.
                        2. A good bit of latency for US dial-up occurs at the changover in hops from atlantic to europe (hop10) there it basically adds 100ms.
                        3. At best the 56k dialup will start 100- 120ms, and 33k 130-150ms. I think cable is 40-80ms and dsl 10-40ms... T1 gota be near 1ms but thats like $4000/mo.
                        4. Also u gota recall alota jerks take pleasure in agrivating the process like for the last 3 weeks some have been attacking /dos the 12 major routers here in the US, and quite a few viruses keep coming out of korea. So there are alota reasons people have 300- 400ms in tw. To arbitrarily set all max latency to 200ms would basically bar all except those local to the finland server.

At home we cannot get any high speed connection type possible except for 2-way satellite which I have tried for subspace and I get 1000+ ping so thats no good and its like $70 american a month. We live way in the boonies of ohio, that's why nothing is available

I have my personal computer at my friends house on a cable connection, and can personally tell you I play much better on the cable modem because I lag a lot less. It's a lot easier to play without lag because you hit what you hit instead of having to lead in a blank spot if you lag bad.
