Speedball/Strikeball Challenge

Fellas, this is just a very elementary little project... the bot isn't done, the arena isn't done. As soon as everything's in order we can set up multiple teams, meantime, let's just play with these groups and see how it is. neither team wins anything by winning, it's just for kicks. come kick it.

mind you, there's been ONE game so far, and it was 2 on 2. I don't think we're quite to the re-distribution period yet.

Div why don't you set a time for a 5v5 or whatever the max # of ppl can play. Set a game time and ppl will make it to that game. If there are more than enough that come then just start a 2nd game.

Seems that Broly was calling the opposing teams players, playing defense "Cherry Pickers". Now to me...when someone is cherry picking it means that they are not playing defense and that they are lurking at the opposing teams goal waiting for a shot to come there way for the easy score. or as the sports dictionary notes:


Cherry picking in sports is the tactic of waiting close to the opponent's goal in hope of receiving the object in play (ball, puck etc) and redirecting it towards the goal.


After being told by Broly I need to learn the rules of SB as well as Hockey for some reason, I was amazed at how arrogant and ignorant he/she/it is to this term of "Cherry Picking".

It's called Defense that the player was playing yesterday Broly, not "Cherry Picking"....maybe you need to learn how to play the game!

Cherrypicking isn't illegal. My fear is that it'll be easy to cherrypick in a real speedball game.

And for the record, I disagree with the random damage feature.

2) cherrypicking isn't a major problem in real sb games. if someone is cherrypicking, that means they aren't doing all the work in the midfield, which is where the battle is.

I agree...I was just amazed that one could confuse the differences between DEFENSE & cherrypicking.

Personally....I love killing the cherry pickers and those that will sit in an opposing teams goal.

Most people don't Cherry Pick because most of the time their teammates flame him/her for not playing any defense. Hopefully the bot will give the MVPs to the people with the most assists.

the only rule in sb is you can't be sitting within your own goal crease (on defense) if the ball is on the other end of the court. this makes perfect sense because why the hell would you want to be that far away from the action just waiting for the enemy to come overpower you and score anyway?

a team that actually tries to adopt that strategy thoroughly would not be very good In My Opinion

they would have no organized offense, which would let the opposing team commit far less to defense (they would just need, like i said, to have 1 member within range of the 3/4 intercept on wormhole passes), which would lead the cherrypicking team to be outnumbered even on the "defensive" side. any possible advantage of not having to commit to offense would be outweighed by the disadvantages, i think.

it's the fucking shooting tricks he knows from playing speedball since birth, i can't compete with that shit. i can barely aim at the goal when i'm in the goal box.

I disagree. The guy cherrypicking can fire bullets to assist in killing the nme and perhaps even use bombs (I dunno how long bullets and bombs last so I might be wrong here). As long as the cherrypicker has 1 rep and the long pass reaches seminear the goal, then I think a cherrypicker strat would work. The defenders can't thrust all the way from midfield to their own goal to defend. And if they can, they can't shoot bullets or bombs.

I guess this sort of leads into my main problem with speedball. Advancing the ball is more important than ball control. I know some of you guys will disagree, but I see ppl dumping the ball towards the nme half of the field rather than moving backwards and passing to a teammate ... thus retaining ball control. Maybe I'm just coming from a Powerball/Proball point of view. I just think ball control should be more important (should be emphasized more) than dumping the ball every time you are alone, in trouble, and surrounded by enemies. Right now it's almost always preferable to just chuck it into nme territory.

Yeah, I understand that Speedball is its own game as well. But to me, certain aspects make it less about skill and a lot more random/chance-based.

Just my opinions. Imma still keep playing regardless =). Good games today btw (lots of Team 2 ppl were on).
