I think automation is fairly good for the repitative games and many events. However, I also do think ER are probably getting lazy and not hosting original events. This really presents the problem of the who the perpatrator is? As in did the gun kill the person or the person who shot the gun kill the person. One thing can be said though is that the gun does make it a lot easier. As in bots do make it a lot easier for an ER to be lazy and still consider they're doing something for the community. Maybe the answer lies in the incentives that ER's would get in hosting unique events that aren't automated or aren't the current favor of the week. Over all I think bots are generally a good thing but they do tend to get misused.
In the subject of tournaments, they are only as good as the players that play in them. It is not unusual to see tourny in the weekends with very few players and therefore the whole experience is diluted. Think of the football world cup or olympics. If it was every year, it just wouldn't be the same. Quite frankly, the automation of the tourmanent is great compared to manually hosting due to all the spawn kills that used to happen. Therefore, automation in running the even has definetely increased the robustness of the event considerably. However, the frequency of the event is the problem.
The only solution I can think of is to restrict tournies even more. Even though tournys are run only on the weekend. I reckon there should only be one tourny every two hour (or more) maybe even alternating between wbs and javs. That way when a tounry is on, it is moderately more special than what it is now. Possibly even having an event of choice running about 3 times per day on weekends.
So for example:
12:00am - javs 1v1
2:00am - wbs 1v1
4:00am - javs 2v2
6:00am - wbs 2v2
8:00am - javs 1v1 or others
lather, rinse, repeat.
Having the times well published for the weekend on when the events will be. So an even of choice could possible run about 6 times a day and more likely will see increase in the quality of the tournaments. I don't know if this will be implemented or an idea to be filed for later use or not but just my thoughts
