REVAMP DRAFT LEAGUE and TEST play

I'd like to see some Radio show support that will comment on the picks made by the draft teams as the picks are made in-game.

How is a draft league going to "bring back the population"?

Staff dosent hype things up like they used to, and people feel that leagues like this arent worth their time because its missing the hype. Even twl is losing its luster due to the lack of hype. Would it kill you guys to update the news.txt, trenchwars.org and make announcements in-zone every hour or so? Theres like no incentive to play in these things.

a2m that is completely correct. there is no hype we need a radio show back to talk about stuff and staff should be advertising using their powers to get people to realize something is going to happen... maybe throw out some events to be hosted for the winner or get them to make a base map for a week etc.. anything and people will get involved. we need people to participate to keep things happening if you dont participate then it will die and not work. simple as that

I support this idea. However I don't think the Minor League will work out, just keep it to one league, no one will show up for the Minor League because they won't want to be branded a 'newbie'.

Agreed, most people will believe they're good enough to be in Majors.
If people are all to start off as one, then the league will split people into Minor/Major depending on performance, that might work (Kind of like TWEL, if you make playoffs you're major, if not, minor)...I don't know, I haven't put too much thought into it, but I guess it's a good idea, wouldn't mind seeing it go ahead.

Someone pmed me in trenchwars and told me to come respond to this post, I don't know why anyone who wanted this done would want me to post what I think about it. But in the manner of being fair I won't completely trash the idea.

The main problem with draft tournaments is, people have too much ego, or the people who you would want to be playing do atleast. Imagine yourself as a captain, you pick your 10 players for your draft league. Well you lose the first and second games, and people start saying "we suck" and quitting, which further drains the competitiveness out of the league. Not to mention the people who will just leave squads if they don't like people on the squad, want to be on a squad with their friends, don't get played, etc etc. Aside from that, Trenchwars needs an off season, as a captain, dealing with a squad for 15 or so weeks required to play in TWL is social life hell, scheduling RL things around games on the weekend, as sad as that might be, keeping the squad alive and running for that long, its draining, and I generally enjoy the off-season. I would feel obligated to play in this league, and knowing myself, would feel like a captain whether I was or not due to my experience in the field. Much like when people said there should be two TWL's a year, all it does it make it less special honestly, if TWL was once every two years it would be ever better, so on and so on. If the World Cup was every year I doubt many people would love it as much as they do. In the end this has been a good idea for a few years, unfortunately with the type of players we have, it just isn't a feasible league.... Unless like someone mentioned above it is extremely quick, like 8 draft teams, single elimination, 2 weekends of playing. But then.. this seems like alot of work for not much play time.

As for the hyping thing, I have said that before also, TWL seems less special to alot of people, I think there should actually be a position in staff to be a HYPER (uppercut, sorry I had to). Someone like Nickname or PH who did most of last years Hot or Not's would do well, someone whos writing is entertaining, funny, and really gets people into the spirit of doing something. The staffer should have access to Zone with SMOD consent, post articles on www.trenchwars.org, and setup things like, a series of three games with an "Important Announcement" at the conclusion. Where they tell everyone in the arena what they have planned, this will atleast up the excitement level for the upcoming event, make it feel special.

good idea wark, ok ive thought a bit more about this draft league and contracts salary cap and free agents, what if we have 15 people per team pending on the activity of the 15 might be knocked down to 10 and another team or two will be added on to the league.

now heres the thing what if there were contracts you signed for weeks. so if the DL was like 3 months long in total you could sign as a captain a player for 4 weeks at 1.4 million dollars and after the 4 weeks the player can uneligible to play for that team unless another contract has been signed... u can trade that player willing or unwillingly, if the player refuses to play for the team he has been traded for then thats balls and the captains will realize how that player is and wont be signed again. you would be able to kill that contract as a captain and remove them from the roster and pick up a free agent for less money because they simply just want to play. u know what i mean? i know this sounds like a lot of work but im willing to set up a restriction for each teams salary and have certain players classified in certain money areas... say u have johndoe who just started he would obviously only be worth like 100k but if u have someone like Pure_Luck whos a good terr he will be worth average to high and if you had a 3 league player like megaman89 last TWL season he will obviously be like the Jagr of the NHL and be making atleast 7 million etc.. so the captain can base his team on one or two key players or have a solid average team who might be able to outteam because they are all decent etc.. u know? as i said i am willing to set up areas for how much the people are involved earnings will be and see where it goes if we have the amount of people. as i said earlier i think unless i said it to weaver there will be 15 people per team and maybe 4 teams to start off.. then if its a hit we can move it to 6-8 teams with either 10 or 15 people a team. ive gotten some ?messages and private messages from people wanting to be captains or just involved and so far it looks pretty good. the only minor flaw i think might be the time zones and having a euro league or just having both mixed etc. post your ideas and please make them positive so pure and the higher staff will realize this is a good idea and implement it.

wark hit the nail on the head, the reason the draft leagues have never worked out before is that people on this game are generally young, and i guess insecure, because they NEED to play with there friends. I'll recount when i was a captain and was forced to trade merce because he was gay for a2m and wanted to be on his team. Of course I didn't get fair value for him when I was forced to trade him (or i can bench one of my best picks, and thus lose some of my teams competitivness)

As long as people who play this want to play for so and so and don't want to play with so and so this will not work.

When you do official signups you need to point out in BIG BOLD LETTERS that you may be on a team with someone you don't like and you will be forced to deal. The draft league CAN work, if it's run on an annual basis like TWL and if there are Repercussions for people who treat the league like ass. Want to play with so and so and refuse to play for your team? Fine, ban them for life from all draft leagues. At least that way some people might think twice before being immature little brats (or being gay for a2m)

very good idea but i already used it earlier i said that if people are being like who you are saying merce wanting to play for a2m then ill be monitering that and ill get rid of them from the league... it isnt really that hard it just takes some time and effort in controlling things. and there really shouldnt be a proble with a small run of this because im sure there will be more then 60 people wanting to play so if there is 1 badass player who things hes worth godlike money and will only play with his friends then ill remove or the captain will remove and let one of the free agents play

The reason people want to play with their friends isn't about insecurity so much as it is about ego. Besides being on the same skill level, and time played with your squad, you generally have the same interests and sense of humor as they do, and know how to play well with them. You will have to explain to people why they can't play with friends along with repurcussions for not taking the league seriously. Also you need to keep in mind that some people, like me for instance, would enjoy this league from a different point of view, I would want to basically be a Ringer, sitting as a free agent and joining squads that needed a little extra power for their upcoming game, and I am sure im not alone in that. Also keep in mind that if a squad has 15 warbirds because they only want to dd, that only 5-6 of those warbirds are going to be able to play, and the other 9-10 are just going to think the league is boring. Once again imagine yourself as a captain, the first 5 picks you get will probaly be the best players available at the time, until the best players are finally picked and all that is left are the scraps, like fat kids at the start of dodgeball. What is the incentive for the fat kids to join this league if they are never going to play over the better players?

well you see 'fat kids' will get to play maybe we will make it a rule that there will be 5 players used for a jav match and those players cant play for the warbird match. basing would be a bit different but if you have 5 wb 5 jav you will have 5 basers and make up the last 3 with the wb/jav playing spiders etc.. everyone will get to play and we will make more then one game... maybe for the first two weeks we will have a day where you play all 3 teams to see if the teams are balanced or if there should be that extra team or two which would make the roster of the draft teams either shrink or expand

But much like in TWL, not every captain is going to care about winning in all three leagues, in fact most captains will probaly want to only win, and only recruit, for the league they want to win in the draft league. If I capped I would pick warbirds, because what do I know about basing or javving, if Merce wanted to cap, he would do the same for javving, and the same for Pure_Luck and basing. You are going to have to basically understand you aren't going to get 10 or so caps who are all competant to run three league squads. If you try to make all squads play all three leagues, you are going to have horrible competition, for instance a WB squad I would make because I know good warbirds would rape Pure_Luck's squad in DD, but get raped in turn by PL's squad in BD, thats just the fact of TW.
