Despite my stance in this topic, I am still willing to consider other ideas and options.

Well ever think about just fixing the thrust shot and leaving the rest alone? Your opinion of what the X should be, and how you are changing it just shouts "I have never played an X for any period of time and have no clue how to really fix it". If you actually played a small X you would figure out that it is pretty balanced for its job and fits everything that you said an X should be. The large X for heavy basing just plain and simple sucks and is only really good for getting on a private freq and spawning. Tell me, in all honesty how much have you played both the big and small X in heavy basing? Because anyone who has some actual experience with it would agree with me that the changes have ruined it.

You are not going to get more than a few new players to this game and changing what keeps the main player base here is just going to make them leave and kill the game.

I have no problem with trying to make the game better but these changes just show you have no real experience playing the ship that you are completely ruining in the "hope of making the game better".

The Weasel alone will not have a big impact (if any) at the playerbase. The normal size Weasel was a fine ship before (there was really no reason to change it to a small one at all IMHO), it can and will be that again. Besides, the new map could open new possibilities for the Weasel as well.

I can't stand the old style size of the weasel. It was this smaller weasel that got me playing SS again.

The smaller weasel was far more fun to play and this recent change has made me move on to other games now (which likely pleases some people).

With my last 1000 hours or so playing as the weasel, I have heard many times how the weasel was too powerful, but its funny how there are some players out there who are very effective when it comes to stopping me from coming into base.

I think player ability far outways any of the ship capabilities. The good players have always been able to stop me dead in my tracks, the others couldn't and resorted to whining usually (or changing the game ).

The new X does a pretty good job with snipe campers trying to annoy.

I just hopped into an X and got him a couple times and they usually stop.

You're quite wrong. I've seen the opposite.

Look at what I can do with my big ol' weasel! I don't mind the change, but it's not going to get me in base.

That would work for me. Still leave the cloak+stealth drain, and maybe even disable firing while stealthed. (All these idiots claim how godlike they are by using radar to hit, anyway). The small size gives it a significant role in basing. While it's big, it doesn't do anything another ship can't do, except be invisible to some of the enemy team. (4-5 terrs on the opposing team KIND of makes cloak worthless with how close they have to be to kill anything.) And again, 4 enemy weasels invading the flagroom never bothered me as a terr. 8 javs thinking they're fancy and they 'pwn' when they tk 2/3 of the time, however, BOTHERED ME A GREAT DEAL.

So where's the change to javs coming? They are clearly without a doubt a bigger threat to their own team than a flock of enemy weasels, so why are weasels changed and Javs left alone?

Please, make the weasel small again.

As someone who has played both (3?) types, I agree with those who think the small weasel settings were balanced.

The large weasel has no real use except to spawn levis, and can't defend itself against any ship with x-radar, except maybe a shark. I found basing in sparse pubs, I could usually shift the balance, especially for a freq that had not gotten a terrier yet, but a well balanced team that had a good hold on the base would generally shut me down quickly; I think it was pretty balanced. Weasel vs weasel fights were definitely a test of skill with that ship.

Since this is a discussion for the powers-that-be to make future changes...
I would suggest making the weasel with "small ship" settings again, but make it banned from a couple arenas, the way levis are - then you can have the option to play with our without, and we could see what most people prefer- probably not exactly all the same arenas as levis are banned from though, you want to see which ship people hate more

First of all, thanks for your input, Quill. I certainly am not pretending to speak for Mootland, or the rest of the Pub Committee members, but I'd like to take a brief moment to respond to your ideas.

One of the primary objectives of the Pub Committee is to get the focus back on CTF basing. I personally think the larger weasel plays more of a supplemental role to a frequency than the small weasel did. In other words, the weasel is no longer able to play the role of solo-warrior/ninja-assassin, and it's more of an additional option to eliminate a specific threat (such as Levis, snipe-campers, and roofers). That's one of the reasons I think the newer weasel is better for basing; it's more of a team ship than a solo ship. Yes, the small weasel could do those things too, but the majority of people (including myself) used the weasel more to wreak general havoc than to help their frequency keep flag possession.

To address your proposal of having a small weasel for specific pub arenas and the large one in others---one of the Zone Objectives is to unify the pub arena settings as much as possible, and your suggestion goes in the complete opposite direction.

Am I the only one who does not have a problem avoiding team javs? There are a lot of them, no question, but I hardly ever get TKed by javs these days. My main problem, now that weasels have to use the same door as the rest of us, is with dumb sharks like The DOOR MAN who fill the entrance with mines and severely limit my ability to move around.

But I digress. The drop in weasel population has been refreshing, and even I have retreated from my batcave to play quite a bit of pub this scoring period. Relatively speaking, all is well.

                                Meddi,
former cloakers? weren't you a cloaker too? :P

                                Subjugation,
Thanks for reply. That helps put the changes in perspective. Whenever one ship is used by the majority of the players, it's overpowered (like the warbird used to be back when I started Trench!)

I will miss the old cloaker- properly played, it could kick major ass.
That said, whatever will keep the most people playing is for the best.
Looks like I will to go back to my spider, or try something different.
