      no.

Don't see why this is hard, dictionaries have pronunciation guides.

I am pretty sure it's neither meelee nor maylay.

          It's more mel-lay

Might be a British/US thing though

Yeah you've got that right Ewe, it's pretty much either "May-Lay" or if you feel that just sounds too long you're good just saying "Meh-Lay"...Without making the "Meh" sound really long anyway.

On a personal note, I don't understand how you could say "Melee" as Mee-Lee...You see, Lee has 2 e's, but Me only has 1 e...So how could both have the same sound? Just a thought =P

Can't believe I've made more contribution to a pronunciation thread than some other more important ones xD

                  Yeah that's the American pronunciation.

                  British pronunciation: (From Oxford online)
                  melee /mellay/

Apparently with a lot of American accents, the words "merry, Mary and marry" all sound the same, is this true?

                      mee - lee sounds odd

may - lay also sounds odd

I like, Mee - Lay, but it is may lay, even if in my brain i say 'mee lay'
