Yes for me the road to mod had no <ER> stop, but it did have almost 13 months of ?help calls as <ZH>. I made that choice early on and stuck to it
Scoop ol buddy you will be missed!

I'll put my 2 cents in here as well:
I've been ER for quite a while now. Joined staff about 1 year ago, and moved up to ER after about 2 months. I can remember that I were looking forward to do each event I hosted as well enjoyable as possible. I always try to use *Arenas that makes the players feel involved in the event, and to engage them in the hosting itself. From what I've heard of feedback, I've done a decent job at it.
As soon as number of events per month started to become a factor for me (the first months you host like crazy because it's so fresh and fun), I started to feel more forced to host than doing it out of fun. I host way better when I do it for fun, and to interact with the players (hi Fusha!), than I do just to boost a number on the staff page.
Hosting when unmotivated gives shitty events, no fun, and all work. You can tell if the ER wants to host or not by playing the event, atleast I can. I've seen ER's host an event doing about 3 *arenas and a !start, and being close to afk during the whole time (not answering pm's). We might as well add another retarded bot to host events like that.
Having a quota is needed, because staff isn't a place where you can just hang and rest on your powers. We need to remove those who aren't honest enough to come forward and to leave staff when they stop playing.
In the end: A chance in the system is needed, to encourage more ER promotions of players that WANTS to host rather than to being forced to host. We have ZH's that would want to host some more, but not being forced to host X events per month in fear of getting axed. This leads to a situation where we rely on hosts like Stargazer to carry the volume of events each month.
We've known eachother for some time through staff now Kim, please listen to me before we lose more hosts that are capable of hosting good events like Scoop.

No Worries. I'll just assume that it has changed and is lower (which is good)

Mav thinks you're still in staff, silly mav.Originally posted by Nickname View Postuhhh, if you mean private staff forums I obviously haven't had axcess since i retired last november. If you mean the public staff forums, then I don't see the point of it, since it's at least a part of this thread to begin with (thread creator brought it up).
KIM: If I read correctly theres a new quota system (or something?). If it's public knowledge could you let me know what it is? If it's private staff stuff thats fine too.
Quota system is private knowledge, sorry.

I only wanted to state that's the quota is different then 50 events (and to be exact, it's measured in advertisements, not events) and you should keep in mind it's on a per-month basis. That means you have to divide it by 31 to get the quota per day or by 4 to get the quota per week and you'll see it's quite low. You can even host one evening per week to make quota.

The problem is a lot of ZH's dont want to be ER. They know they will be stuck as an ER for a looooong time because TW has always needed hosts. Many dont think hosting is fun.

Maybe introduce a quota + quality check system, you don't need to keep this quota at the insane rate it's at and you could always hire more staff and eventually lower the quota. As far as <ZH>'s becoming Mods that needs to watched, I think a hardworking <ER> who has proven himself/herself deserves a Moderator spot over a hardworking <ZH>, why is lower staff getting the shit end of the stick? There needs to be some payoff to busting your balls hosting when you could just login as a <ZH> during a high volume of calls and sit there for ten minutes and get 10-11 then logout.

Quota has pros and cons. I think it was needed mainly because we had a LOT of staff and only a few people actually helping out consistently. It has made people a lot more proactive about staff and people are blowing by the quota fourfold. On the other hand, it does make staff seem more like a job without many thanks.
I went back to ZH from ER for the same reason Nick brought up. It took way too much time out of my life to meet quota. I also tried to come up with new and not-often hosted games, but that doesnt really matter when you cant meet quota. I didnt have much drive to host so much, though hosting games is fun.
I dont know if I would choose a staff without some kind of quota, however. I think it helps push people to do more in staff, rather than come on once a month and take 2 calls.

In my personal opionion I would rather see more <er> and each individual <er> hosting less events, but events of higher quality. I think the increase in diversity and quality of events would be worth it. The preparation time to host an event well can be as long as the event itself. When I hosted oldtrench3 yesterday it took me about 10 minutes to find and setup the warp coords (safe and ear). the actual event only lasted about 25 minutes (5-10 mins to pick teams 15mins flag time). I could have just told everyone to go to safes. But basing events are better and fairer with earwarp....Plus now its setup anyone else can use the same coords in a future event.Last edited by Doc Flabby; 08-17-2007, 07:55 AM.
