www.newgrounds.com is featuring online games on their starting-page. i dont know the conditions but that website is damn popular.

same goes for www.fileplanet.com, since featuring free games and demos is all they do!

generally, i think a feature at the frontpage of a popular website is more effective than forum sigs etc..

What I was thinking was to get the attention of major game reviewing sites like gamespot (maybe not gamespot given the controversy surrounding them at the moment). If we explain the situation, maybe we can get a decent reviewer who has a group of readers to take a dive in the past. This game is still a gem, and a direct predecessor of the first online game.

I'm not going to go in greater detail about what I wrote earlier, I don't want to air dirty laundry in public, because I still respect those involved.

Do we have any ideas about prittk's future plans for the game, he has total control of our destiny? Is he going to keep paying for servers etc, indefinatly?

The Client hasn't has a major upgrade for 4/5 years, all the new current development is on the server side. Some nice upgrades would be to allow mp3/ogg/midi to be played, allowing longer music in arenas. Improved graphics (maybe the creation of 3d arenas - as in 2d viewpoint, 3d ship models over a 2d arena, to allow cool lighting effects etc, so when you shoot your spaceship lights up etc) Something to increase level download speeds, they are incredulously slow.

Problem is pub rly isnt that fun to play constantly but theres no like "newbie" league all the newbs come and play pub for a while i want to check out squads and get pwnt and then they leave lol need to make it a lil more newb friendly somehow.. In mk where i used to staff for mk2 we make like a training area where you killed shit till you hit like level 12 or something made you get the hang of it before you played with others

Theres just a lot of websites that you can advertise this game. If you want population, I suggest you try those 3 websites on the top, or the three gaming sites. Also if your part of a non-subspace forum/community (GFX Forums, etc), try to make a topic about the game in their gaming section..Theres alot of ways to advertise this game, we just need to get the word out there.

You should remove the ?go afk arena, the ?go javs arena so both elims get active. Also remove the 36 hours to 0 hours. I also think you should make public like ?go base, where there is a timer rather than points. after each game has finnished, 30 seconds later a new game will begin. -vys

Its all very well posting on the games sites, but theres a chance of getting "lost in the noise" with all the other games on there.

I'd look as well at going to a mainstream news site and trying to get cont as a feature/article there - it will stand out much more sice they don't deal exclusively with games, and they tend to have a larger and wider audience. Can we not find a tame freelance tech journalist and "persuade" them to write an article? I'm pretty sure it would be possible to get the BBC news website (one of the most popular news websites on the planet) to run a feature in their technology section, given that cont is one of the oldest MMOGs on the planet, and fan supported, and great etc etc. Of course, last time I offered to do this, Dock rather rudely ordered me not to, since he didn't want any new players on the server at the time.

On a seperate note, I agree with what Flabby is getting at - the future of cont and TW doesn't just lay with getting new blood, we have to have updates to the software as well. I understand that Priitk is reluctant to release the source code because of the cheating problem, but it is stifling development - hes too busy to work on it as much as we need to keep the game current.

I've already tried getting a story on Slashdot (just because it was easy to do) but no joy with that (yet). I'm also writing a novel that includes a few references to subspace - but that could take years to finish (unless someone wants to pay me to finish it ;P)
