Reasoning
No, this isn't real life calling me. More so me deciding that I need to relinquish my Staff duties. Why? I do not have the will to adequately run my role as Head of Public Development. Without such energy, I have remained slightly inactive for the last few months. I have always maintained that if you're not producing on Staff, you shouldn't be there. Therefore I don't want a backseat ride as a SMod doing nothing.
Lower Staff Experience
It has been a long 5 years of Staff. Most of it enjoyable I can gladly say. I have to say, the most enjoyable time I had was being a <ZH>. I wanted to be Staff so I could help the zone. That I did. I loved talking to players and resolving their issues. But you start learning more and more, and you become curious as to how this gigantic cog revolves. You continually develop your skills and knowledge so that you can fulfill the zone as best you can. You also develop your own code on how to fulfill your role. For example, I never used RoboHelp when taking ?help calls.
Being a top dog
Being a SMod gives you great access to make change. I was trying to be more democratic with my decisions regarding Public Development than previous Sysops. Although this somewhat flopped, because everyone had an opinion. I made a few bad decisions, but we all do, right? In the end, I wasn't having much fun and even when my Internet collapsed for 3 weeks running, I wasn't bothered about not being here.
The Zone itself
Had we some self control during our peak times, I think we would have salvaged some more players. Despite that, people leave for various reasons, so you can only speculate. Now Staff should be concerned with maintaining their current population. I will let you decide your own opinions on Trench Wars Staff, I have my own, but I do not want to boost or put down. Some people feel they're obliged an update. Tough.
Pure Publics
They have caused quite some controversy over the years, but many have enjoyed them. I would like to thank you to Cpt.Guano! for helping me set them up, Qan for making them better, and you for playing in them.
Closing
What holds for me now? Well, I'll probably still continue to play the game, although not as much. But I have a few goals I want to achieve this year, so less time here, means more time spent for that. Right, that's it.
