Was having no bots a bad thing?

you can't really use games played to activeness like that HTF, basing games and jav games require more time and basing requires more players so. basically 2 dd's take about the same time and the same amount of players as one bd. If we change it, it should be even across the board.Rabble Rabble Rabble

there are many more dd squads then all others, and if all arenas get packed why should we wait 1 hour to play? My squad has done 96 dd games in 3 weeks, we even at the current bot usage have waited an hour plus at nights (est) to get a free arena to play a game.Devest.proboards.com

Yup, made this point before about not spreading TWs population across arenas, but Wark has put things into perspective and laid down some practical solutions, instead of us all talking about theory, so I'm very grateful for that.
Gonna briefly reflect on some ideas...
- 2/3 TWD limit would be pretty cool, more squads would be talking to each other, more players together united etc., but of course I think it's a trial thing, don't know if this will pan out as well as people hope.
- Events got a hell of a lot more players sure, but I kinda agree with Vehicle too, I don't know, maybe there's a way hosts SHOULD host, if you're a newbie ER, rely on the bots to help you host a little, but then try and develop on your own, question what you can do differently and see if it has a positive impact on your hosting.
- Joining elims is what I thought was good from the start. Old elim should be back, but with some of the additions of the new elimbeta bot, meaning ONE arena (NO CASUAL IN ELIM, it's useless, spreads players), but streaks and personalised adverts should be kept.
- wbduel/javduel should be limited between times too, it means people won't have to start spamming 50 different arenas for players. Keep wbduel/javduel open during TWL (When players need practice before a game, they will literally be begging for this)
- base should be kept open, but ERs should be able to advertise this as a normal event, with personalised base hosting with more players. Base is a basers elim, I think we should respect that.

Just touching on one aspect of the zone, I just want to say that when base was not run 24/7 and was played in private arenas (#mythrandir etc) the basing community was a lot better and far more accessible to new players. For one thing, players of the arena would go into pubs (!) to personally invite players into the arena to play. Because it didn't have automated announcements (or announcements at all) and because it was a private arena, they needed to personally invite people to have enough players for a game. Ever since it was moved into the public ?go base arena, it's become harder and harder for new players to get into the community, as people basically just turn their noses up at them. The base community has basically become an incest fest, where no new blood is ever brought in, and the number of players has been rapidly decreasing.
I'd love to see base partly return to its roots, just to see what happens. Get rid of the zoners, and no longer have it running 24/7. It probably doesn't matter if it's in a private arena or not, but it kinda makes it feel more "special" I guess. Encourage players to go into pubs and invite a couple of people in to play! You'd be amazed at how many basers got their start this way back in the days of the private arenas. HELP new players, and don't yell at them or be a dick. When I first started playing in #myth, someone actually explained to me how to properly time and play in shark (Triceratops... RIP) which is unheard of in this day in age. Automated base was fun for a while, but it sucks for the long term survival of the game. Another important aspect is that because it wasn't run 24/7, it was something to look forward to, which made it a lot more fun.
Wow, even just thinking about this is really cool. DO IT NOW. Down with 24/7 base!!!sdg

What a great thread.
I dont think that we need to start thinking at this point how ppl are hosting. I think the main point is that how can we stop ppl from spreading all around TW. Robobots help in hosting, i dont think it matters if you use a command on robobot to spec ppl or you spec them manually. It doesn't really matter because outcome is the same. 5 years ago it didn't matter if you used TWBot/Robobot, it just gave you a change to host harder/different events that ppl liked. All we need now is to get ppl for events and i think that right way is to cut automated events.
In my opinion first thing is to make elim as one. It worked 5 years ago on the same arena, why would it be any different now? It's about what ppl are getting used to, anything different is bad until you internatilize(is that a word?) it.SSCU Trench Wars Staff:

Heh yeah, I never forgot the first time I got invited into ?go #myth from a pub when an older player saw me in there basing and playing well. I turned out to enjoy warbird dueling much more, but that is really the first major event that got me started in TW.. being invited to Myth to base was pretty much THE way for a pubber to move further in TW. It wasn't just about the basing it was about experiencing 20 really good players playing together, laughing together, as a community. It is stuff like that that eventually got me addicted to this zone, that and squadding.Rabble Rabble Rabble

After thinking this for 1 minute, i think that you got a point. Base is much more special if it's hosted and not just automated.SSCU Trench Wars Staff:

I've always said they should recombine the elims. That was probably the single biggest fuckup by staff in last 5 years. The reason ?go javs has become so popular is because baseelim is always dead, and though the wbs might get a little annoyed having to wait for the javs and vice versa it would make for bigger games for both.
Rather than limiting the number of TWD arenas you should limit the hours it is available, if TWD locked up for hour and a half or two hour intervals it would benefit both TWD and hosted events because each would become better regulated. In other words for two hours TWD is available then next two hours it isn't and on and on till infinity. We don't need to get rid of anything we should just restrict them a little bit to increase demand.Sit down.

I disagree with that Trunks, If we have lets say.. 6 bots in each league running, and we take out 3 of them, we are essentially doing your idea of cutting out 50% of possible matches in any given hour. There are too many people who only log on to play TWD matches to do it like that. I think that cutting back on matchbots is the smarter way to go here.Rabble Rabble Rabble
