let me try to make it clear.
When Distension was hosted it averaged an arena size of 60+, even though only 34(?) could play.
Even when the sessions had finished, the arena would have 30+.

IF YOU TAKE DISTENSION OUT OF THE TW IT WILL REMOVE ATLEAST AN AVERAGE OF 60+ ACTIVE MEMBERS FROM THE ZONE.... after bots and afk'rs that would be close to half.

I'd love to see base partly return to its roots, just to see what happens. Get rid of the zoners, and no longer have it running 24/7. It probably doesn't matter if it's in a private arena or not, but it kinda makes it feel more "special" I guess. Encourage players to go into pubs and invite a couple of people in to play! You'd be amazed at how many basers got their start this way back in the days of the private arenas. HELP new players, and don't yell at them or be a dick. When I first started playing in #myth, someone actually explained to me how to properly time and play in shark (Triceratops... RIP) which is unheard of in this day in age. Automated base was fun for a while, but it sucks for the long term survival of the game. Another important aspect is that because it wasn't run 24/7, it was something to look forward to, which made it a lot more fun.

It's useless to have any kind of advertising thing going on if we dont have a zone that will be interesting for newer players. Think it like this: New players enters pub and they try different kind of ships etc. What about after that? They hunger something more, something more competitive like elim. Now that we have ppl spread out everywhere, we dont have games filled with action, we just got games where are only about 10 old players just playing because there's nothing better to do.

New players from public dont go straight to play twd and that's a fact. They need first practise and get better in wb or jav. Ok they can do it in public but it's not the same thing. Elims are more filled with action (or atleast should be) and way more interesting to play because you got a goal, goal to win others.
I think that new player route goes like Pub -> Elim/javduel/wbduel -> Twd.
No squad will get players from pub.

TW isnt suppose to be about TWD or TWL. TWL is just a special thing that we have. TW is suppose to be a zone where ppl can play different kind of games everyday. It's like playing a roleplaying game. You just advance your skills as much as you can. You can't really do that "easy" anymore if you're a new player. All you have is public, it's the biggest arena at the moment and that's just wrong.

And the 15v15 basing was a HORRIBLE idea. Not gonna blame wark tho, hes a wb who hosted a basing event while the rest of the baser er's just sat on their fat asses :turned: .

So people would try it out and play more and get addicted to this game. Now, when people join they see the gameplay and it just doesnt seem appealing for them to stay cuz of the graphics n shit in other games and the few that do try it will stay and play pub for a while but that just doesnt cut it, it gets boring and they leave. They only learn about the pub part of the game and leave. need ppl to learn about other arenas and get offered to join squads.

Most people stay around cuz they got a friend who shows them the stuff or they somehow learn on their own while many who tried it dont learn the stuff and leave. For me i dont think i would've stayed unless grandmastahs showed me around and all

This is why I am trying to get advertising on sites like www.armorgames.com, www.newgrounds.com, and emulation/rom websites, where players go and don't expect to play games with Half Life graphics. Basically the best way to advertise this game would be to try to advertise it as you can play for a few minutes on your lunch break, it doesn't take 5 minutes to start playing or leave the game so its great to play at work/school etc. And then we have pubs fixed in a way that are fun and hopefully gain players this way, but this isn't really the issue im talking about.

As far as the hosting goes, im not saying that we shouldn't host with bots I do realize it makes things easier, hell even my fingers got tired of spamming commands to people. Im just saying I would like to see more staff/player interaction, that is really a key to fun events. That and making sure there are enough people in each arena so that everyone is having fun.

quite a few of my players have no squad history, or have very little twd experience, maybe the problem here is you should create a squad that interacts with new players then walla, problem solved. But with squads like deathcaps, nc17, ossify, happytrain, new players are getting invites to squads.

i'm glad wark started this thread because he articulated my views a lot better than i would've been able to. we've spread ourselves too thin and without bots we all seemed to come together more than we have in a while

we acted like a community when the bots were down and ultimately that's what made this game as popular as it was. why are all of you twats still playing? the community! maybe it was just my imagination (and that of many other people, apparently) but we seemed to act, fuck, kinder? when the bots were down. i saw more squadless pubbers in go base when it was manually hosted than i have in a long while.

but whatever, i support wark and i hope shit gets done right.

Reduce automated arenas,
Take away ?go afk (Id rather see people afk in go javs or elim for example)
Try to have a basing game hosted again at for example ?go #mythrandir.
I agree on everything stabwound said, The so called "pro and old" people seem to be really against new people, never even think on add them into a base game (javduel/wbduel) to give them a chance, If a new guy wants cap and he asks "how do i add.." People start yelling, "WOW TAKE AWAY CAP TO SOMEONE BETTER , HE CANT EVEN ADD WOW" Why not just help him, he wont get better by reading that. In the end we wont have any new people in basing /javing/wbing for that matter. New blood is the source to success right now, Dont scare em away, help em.

Oh and less bots/arenas, This shit is getting too automated, more Interaction between staffers-players-vets-noobs please.
