Name Reset: Player and Squad

dunno about posts. But title says it all. The player names and squad names that haven't been accessed for years and have no reputation to them at all should be reset.

Ofc you'd keep things like Sika / -final- im just talkin about all the people who have like 10 names for themselves and dont do shit with this. Like LITERALLY THEY DONT EVEN USE THE NAME AT ALL. EVER.

Fucking people are left to being called thingamajig EX><EED bubukwen wakawakawaka (personally i like this one)

and ya its so hard to make a squad also cuz if u dont borrow a squad name from sumone that sounds decent u end up making a squad with a really shitty name and squads with shitty names rarely last for a long time..

How are the Billing Op's supposed to know what names and squads have a reputation that should be preserved, and which have simply been horded and not used at all in years?

For example, Trench Wars has one staff member with billing power: PriitK. I don't think that needs any further explanation. The point is, there's only a handful of billing op's, and they are all extremely inactive. They are not going to be able to start arbitrarily resetting names and squads without doing it to ones that have history and sentimental value. Then what will be the whine post of the day? Not the fact that there aren't any good names or squads left, but the fact that a Billing Op reset their name that has history or some value to them. This is really an impossible situation.

As it stands now, there is an automatic reset to names and squads, but it is dependent on many factors, including the usage of the name, and if it owns any squadnames. The problem with this is that it is very easy to subvert by simply logging on your name every once in a while. Not to mention if the name has a significant amount of usage, it will not be reset.

One of these threads comes up every month, but here's the bottom line everyone: the billing staff lacks the activity and motivation to devise a better system. I'm not even sure there is one. You want them to sit at their computers all day checking "elite" names and squads for the last time they were used? Give me a break.

Unfortunately, all you can really do is try to use your creativity to create a decent name or squad these days. You can also try to borrow from friends and whatnot, but that's about as much help as you're ever going to get.

Also, if you're really looking for one name, keep your eyes out for those scheduled name resets, because I know a lot of you have already gotten some long sought after names from those.

Finally, I am still in possession of a few names and squads that I'd be more than willing to send off to a better home. Contact me in game.


EDIT: One other thing. If you have a reasonable request for a name (meaning it hasn't been used in a really long time, low usage, is a better variation of your current name i.e. if you have the name Killer! and Killer hasn't been used in years and has a low usage) you can always contact a billing op directly and see what they say, what do you have to lose? Unfortunately a lot of them are very inactive, but two of them that most people seem to have luck getting a hold of and having success with are Pointman and BlueGoku. Good luck.

I get pms and messages every now and then from some random player asking for an old squad name that I made in like 2000 on one of my names. I used to have a list of like 200 squads but I forget them all with my new computer. Whenever I get someone asking for it I give it up though. I don't really care, and let people have them if they want them.

On a side note, the one squad I would not have given away was Exalt, which was made on a name that reset. It was under *UNKNOWN* FOREVER and I couldn't access it, but then some retarded billing op gave it to some newbies in EG. Apparently they won leagues with it, but it still pisses me off. If you won't give me my own name back, then why the fuck are they giving it to some random newbies instead? Oh well. I remember them saying they would pay me for my name too, I laughed at those newbies and their relatively recent first played dates.

i spoke to fantus this month about how the game could be seen as inevitably dying. he is largely unconcerned. he told me with genuine belief that continuum 0.41 will guarantee a billing server reset.

he is our most aspiring coder right now, and he's positive we'll be able to reset and attain previous population heights as soon as someone can design a new version.

he thinks it will happen within two years. ask him yourself.

So is he working on a new client? Has Priit released the source code? Does he know something we don't? Has Priit been secretly working on a new one?

Besides all the obvious questions which make it seem very unlikely that a new client will EVER be released especially not within 2 years there is a bigger one:

How would a new client bring back hundreds of players? People left this game for other games. WoW took a big chunk of players as did the consoles, especially XBox Live. I really don't see how a new client would attract hundreds of players.
