After thinking about it more I just don't really see the point of even having such a convoluted system being talked about
if communication and getting ideas across/worked on is an issue, why would you add another layer of committees and panels and votes and shit ontop of an already non-working foundation
it seems counter-productive to actually getting work doneMy father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

All it is doing is getting people who are not staff, involved in a more official capacity. At the moment I think alot of players feel like they dont have a voice in the direction of the zone. This will help close the communication gap between staff and players.sigpic

First, the election process is based on popularity. Potential drawbacks can be: squads with a large member base, a "newbie" (in terms of paving a path for TW development) with lots of e-friends, etc. Secondly, the voting survey to collect the data will most likely fail to obtain a good representative sample of the TW population (even if they make the news section before you log onto TW provide a voting survey, many people override this function anyway or don't even bother to read the crap).
In an idealistic situation, this has promising results. However, I'm cynical because it's Trench Wars. Most of the current population hasn't experienced enough to have seen what has worked and what hasn't (in the past) to know what can and work in present times, and forecast what can work in the future. Basically this whole process will further slow down the process to make any effective changes, and you're placing responsibilities into the wrong hands. I rather trust the current staff, who are doing (and have been doing for months/years) "volunteer" work for a free-game, most of these people actually care about the development of the game and have some decent background experience in terms of knowing what works and what doesn't.....I know we (players) give you guys (staff) a lot of crap but it's to be expected, but most of you guys are deserving of such responsibility. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to see a group of newly-appointed inadequates completely fuck up whatever settings with their incoherent (and personal agenda influenced) ideas.
I don't really play the game enough anymore to call myself active, but I do care enough about it's future not to want to see it die at an exponential rate....but this can really do it. As there are potential upsides, there are also potential downsides....so take everything into account before you jump the gun on something.
P.S. Players do have a voice, that's what we're exercising right now. We have functional forums for a free game, what more can you ask for? Often times, those who complain about not being heard aren't even making any actual noise....if you want your opinion heard, voice it out and be persistent too.Last edited by LaG KiLLeR; 03-02-2009, 02:42 AM.

I have to echo some of the other negative thoughts on this.
Doesn’t this just add another layer of destructive convolution into how this zone is run? Why after X amount of years are these things only now being broached? Clearly it’s because of a dwindling population and upperstaff scratching their heads and hoping one of these drastic changes will finally take… as well as sharing responsibility as real life pressures grow and enthusiasm for the game wane.
But when these include further fragmenting our dwindling population with things like Distention which should never have been given so much resources or support and arguably has had a negative impact stupidly creating a zone within a zone and causing havoc with the server and bots at times … I wonder what the hell they are thinking.
I’d put myself forward for pub’s since I’ve been playing them for years and think they are the hub of this game and I’ve strong opinions on them. I’m pro basing which doesn’t suit all pubbers like LT’s etc but for me duelling in spawn and near safes is also a big part of the game as is the freedom to jump in jav. It’s also the first place new players will learn ships and move into events and also TWD.In my world,
I am King

The player population is always going to complain about things, regardless of how much they are listened to or how many committees and seat members there are; it's a fact of life. Just because it seems like it might help close the communication gap, it's really just going to bring a whole lot of people into the decision making process that don't need to be there.
When you're already having communication problems, bringing more people that most likely don't have the maturity or responsibility to handle constructive teamwork, is not going to fix things. My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. A bill is presented,
People login to the TWD website to vote on the bill.
Then the statistics can be displayed many ways for example, what percentage of a squad disagrees with a bill. This wont stop people that choose to only play public from voting as they can still signup and login, but, if we do make it so people have to be on a squad, it would lower voting spamming by name changers which could hide as public players.
So if we limit it to registered TWD squads only, people could change the percentage of only their squad and so have less of a vote abusing affect on the whole. Plus its up to each captain of each squad not to allow players to keep changing alias on TWD to cast another vote to sway the overall squad vote. It would be fairly obvious to see squads, (if any) that do this. Because the number of votes from that squad will be higher than the number of players.
So all in all, this system gives a vote to everyone that cares.Ogron - "Lifetime Achievement Award recipient for 10* attitude [Ardour]"

As a member of this community for the better part of 10 years, I believe some of my points and insight to be somewhat relevant and see this to be not necessary.
There is already a governing staff in the zone. It is old, stale and slow but staff has always been: set the rules, enforce the rules and work together to keep things new and fresh yet with no major changes that would disrupt the zone's original ideas. Adding some new BS cabinets in where the players can override the staff, in my opinion it will just further create problems and things will always be debated for years, not much will get done and there will always be someone not happy with the decisions (even if its the players' decision).
Restructure the staff itself, get rid of those member who have done nothing but stat-whore or use the status, get people willing to DO and ACT in the areas where help is needed.
TW has become so based around it's bots that the few people of any use in the zone, imo, are MMaverick and RiiStar. I admit there might be a few others worth mention but when I was staff, these 2 were the people I could talk to, to get information on what's going on or fixing issues. TW has also become so dependent on its bots that nothing less than riots ensue god forbid they go down. The zone has become this "shit or get off the pot" ban-fueled storm of incompetency. You will need to re-do, re-structure, and re-organize more than a community aided governing body to get any real progress DONE (not just started only to be stalled on 1 or 2 people).
There is more I could say, but I'm positive I've ruined any sway I may or may not have had, with recent attitude, especially towards the staff.

P.S.- Ignore everything above this if this new idea will fix elim ranking and take elimbeta out of beta (VIVA LA PASCONE) and put me down for member of the WB Party.
