#mythrandir, #adman and similar arenas were good because they got a lot of new players into the basing scene. The players would go into pubs and personally invite (well, via PM) pubbers into the private arena to play, which is something that doesn't happen at all anymore. That's how I got started in basing and I bet a lot of others did, too. You learn quickly when you're the only inexperienced person out of a team of 8... and have bloodzombie yelling at you for camping in the ear. :P
Man these were good times... It used to be jsut Brookus and Mitch terring game after game after game. Then they'd get bored and Bram and I would Terr, what a nightmare. I used to host games for hours Ah the memories.
Myth was a good idea and go base was a good idea. But they don't allow for quitters and stuff. When we did it there were 16 dedicated players. Even in blowouts people wouldn't quit because the new game would start. And this is before time race... as well.

You guys think of Pallies as gods. They are a great group of guys. They were amazing guys and deserve props. But Diso players like Mantra, Warpotal, and DABram:wub: as well as Anti-Scrubbers Erathia and Brookus have a lot to do with how things went towards getting basing into the mainstream. Hell even Mitch and some guys from Light helped. That first TWLB with the TWLB cup was a huge movement in the basing scene. After that PL got Spastic rolling and rolling they did! Man this stuff is bringing back good memories.

i based my statement on the fact that the arena is named after the guy from pallies, and 2 other pallies players were mentioned. also, they were all about playing strikeball for a little bit and trying managed to get people playing that as well. so they seemed to do a fairly good job of rallying players
violence> dont talk 2 me until u got 900+fbook friends and can take 1 dribble from the 3 point line n dunk

It'd probably be the other way around nowadays.

I don't see how #mythrandir would help at all. The only thing that helped me start RB was to take the people that didn't get picked, not the ones that did.
with penetrate on hold we need another squad to pick up where we left off. hopefully it happens. if not, then i think #myth is the best option. right now base is way too unorganized. i feel as if #myth would be better because it wouldn't necessarily be just for the purpose of playing (getting rid of a lot of double-special bullshit that goes on in go base), but also teach the pubbers. i'm down for a #myth game whenever i'm on, so just drop me a pm whoever.

I think Penetrate offers opportunity for new players to base but I don't think it's exactly a training squad in the way that Rejected Basers, Brainwave, or Penetrate was several seasons ago was.

Brainwave is also dying, I told Downfall to work with Midoent to run a single squad. Midoent is a great captain but he's not active enough to run Brainwave on his own, the roster took a real beating recently. Bury will probably pick up Brainwave's leftovers. I would like to hope Brainwave will merge with Bury and use the Brainwave squad name, but it's pretty unlikely right now.
it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did

Spastic, Anti-Scrub, Pallies, and last but not least Disoblige have played a major role in the development of basing in this zone. Hell even Light had a lot to do with the formation and size of basing.

I referenced a lot of basings ability to grow from #mythrandir to the pallies, I thought I'd acknowledge that other squads have played a major role, and in some cases an even bigger role than Pallies. Disoblige in my mind is the original Basing squad.

Yeah, Mythrandir was only cool because it brought in unknown players from the public arenas into a serious and competitive league style of play and taught them that there was other areas of the game than publics. It was also the first place for instance myself really started paying attention to the names of the people I was playing with, because I noticed the same names there over and over again instead of the more random names that I saw in the pub. The only way to bring back #myth should be in the same way that made it cool in the first place, by having a basing underground that actually spent a little time in pubs and noticed people who were smart, interesting, and had the potential to learn/be good players eventually with some training. Doing zoners for it 24/7 would probably kill the memory of it more than actually helping the zone.

Well, honestly, now that I've thought about it, I don't know how well this would work these days. If anything it would probably just be something fun for basers to do when they don't have enough heads around to play a BD game. It would just be ?go base on a higher level; more organized and with better players overall. The idea of getting players from pub to play along is cool, but realistically these days it's probably just a pipe dream unless people are really dedicated to that aspect of it. On the upside, now that we have organized basing in the pubs (and many players prefer it to regular pub) you can get a better view of the players who might enjoy an organized 8v8 base game. Just food for thought...

I can see this easily becoming just an elitist version of ?go base, but that's really not the point. It's just for some fun and hopefully a way to get some new people into the game.

Well, we just don't have the player base for it anymore to be completely honest. Back in those days there was three full pubs to choose from.
