mattey, the reason why automated bots in base were removed was because statistically we've seen a drop in base games played whereas when someone asks for a base startup, there's been more games. how've you seen it as of recent? how's the activity been? maybe it can get changed.

I know nobody gives a fuck. But this is exactly how I got banned the last time. Rather than saying "no, don't do that," I was told "do it and find out what happens." This is not appropriate staff behavior.

The non-automated system seems to work. Only because it prevents non-experienced caps from becoming caps and ruining a game. I find it better if a staff comes in and manually chooses a cap that has the capabilities of fielding proper players for a game. Now that it's not automated, I've actually seen more basing games going on. Still not as much as before, but a whole lot more than when it was fully automated.

Some of the things I don't like about the bot though are:

- !list is too convoluted. The original way where <player> - <ship/status> worked perfectly

- End-game stats. Doesn't even fit onto my fullscreen when I press esc. Granted, my res is 1280x768, but also if there were no ship-changes, you just read the same stats twice, taking up unneeded space.

- Weasles are a playable ship. For me, that's pretty irritating.


I do appreciate that the bot sends a team message whenever someone lagsout or returns from lagout though. Help us yell at our captains if he doesn't realize : )


As for the whole ?help issue, I suppose if anyone on staff isn't answering a call, I don't know why sending another ?help call would constitute to abuse. actual problems arise, and someone should at least have the decency to answer the problem, since it is part of the job description (volunteer description??). Sure, I haven't been on staff so I could be horribly wrong (I don't see the useless ?help calls I suppose), but that's just how I see it. There's probably no need for the whole super-macho-staff "want me to ban you asshole? ? ?" talk.
But then, not all blame can be put onto staff. Hopefully the people giving the help calls are being dicks when they write it. "?help why are you answering my calls, you stupid douches?!?! why are you soo horrible!!", or sending a ?help call every 15 seconds probably isn't going to help you in your situation. Call me a hippie, but kindness can go a long way in these situations.

Actually, it makes all the difference. Veterans are the reason this zone is still alive and running. Piss enough of them off, and this game dies faster than its normal lifespan would have been. At that point, people like you whose main feeling of power in life is TW staff will lose all hope, and you will finally slash those wrists down the block instead of across the street, and bye bye broly!

Actually, this is far from the reason's I'm not on staff. If you want to create a workable argument in a debate, you need to at least be as accurate as possible. Me thinking that staff should actually be productive if they are staff is not the reason why I am NOT staff. Think for a second before you type.

Are you insinuating that you should be staff simply for doing nothing? I know it isn't your personality that got you staff, unless having none is the fast track way to artificial power in TW. If doing nothing and being useless is the standard for staff applications, then I believe we would have quite a different set of players in staff at the moment.

Just because a person has been staff for a long time, does not mean they should stay staff when their usefulness has run out. I am pretty sure that dead weight isn't exactly the thing TW needs at this phase, but that is strictly my own opinion.

i enjoy everyone calling lai a "newbie" when lai has probably been around longer than you. either way, i'm willing to argue that none of us are actually "newbies" anymore, as we've all been playing a fairly long time at this point. it really doesn't take 7 years of playing this game to understand it as exalt seems to think. this game is very simple.
