  • Fundamentally TW

This was something I was thinking about a couple weeks ago when they changed the weasel and levi settings. I didn't want to post this then because the changes were too fresh and people were still heavily debating things. Now that things have quieted down a bit, let me pose this question:

What about Trench Wars (map, setting, arenas, etc...) do you feel is so fundamentally integral to the identity of the zone that if it were to be changed, Trench Wars just wouldn't be Trench Wars, in your eyes?

Not really... aslong base and baseelim is still there... im ok
I wouldnt be ok with ship setts totaly changing though...
I will never play tw again if that happend.

Hrmm, that's a good question but I'm afraid it is too deep for me.

tk, several things come to mind.

        1) the map - as retardedly stupidly dumber-than-dirt as the design looks, it's easily the most effective map i've seen in any zone. hidden beneath those sloppy tunnels and oversized disney-owned mouse ears is a veritable wealth of strategic usefulness. it's completely surprising by all means, because the map looks like it was drawn by a 2nd grader from the special ed class. go figure.

        2) one-hit-kills - the foundation of tw and the laughing stock of all svs players, the ability for most ships to deal enough damage in one shot to kill other ship(s) at full health is what makes this zone fun. i have a relatively short attention span, and playing on the old vie zones were horribly shitty. i like reflex mixed with strategy instead of patience mixed with strategy.

        3) the variety of ship types - if memory serves me right, tw was the first zone to introduce drastically different ship types from each other. well hockeyzone was probably first (being that they were eventually hosted on vie), but i don't really count them. at any rate, whether or not i'm confusing past references is irrevelent... i like being able to play a game at least 8 different ways and still have fun (not including the multiple ways you can play each ship).

        4) the community - as vie died out and the player base waded out into so-called superzones, the core of the svs community turned egotistical and snobby. tw was a haven for players who didn't care about internet gaming politics and just wanted to have fun. eventually, the svs ego complex spread over into tw, but a good chunk of the community is still worth talking to.

They could change the name, and I don't think I'd throw much of a fit. How many of you have ever asked yourselves how in the sam hell "Trench Wars" fits the style of play in the zone?

To answer your question though TK, I pity the fool who touches my javelin.

I wish there was alternative basing maps, like advanced basing or something with more complexity. That Easter map was excellent cause it got rid of rushers and made people use there piloting skills to get to the egg drop zones. Also it had an equal balance of open space and closed space...making all ships useful
                      in the game.

Change Warbird, don't do it!!!! good enough

Does anyone know the formula for determining BULLET DUD probabilities? Someone told me 0.38 is more likely to be dud... I personally think that was a good change.

DUDs can be good or bad depending on your perspective in the ways of being hit or shooting a player.

Leviathans should keep their current settings but be given 2 repels!!!! I never play leviathan and think they are way too easy to kill despite rockets. The 2 repels would offset against the recent weasel changes and keep this game balanced.

As for Zones: I think an alternative public maps would evolve the game play, but the settings should never be changed unless there is overwelming reason to do so.

TrenchWars for myself is thee best SS zone to play in. 17th parallel isn't bad, but the other ones... they suck... totally off balance. Trench Wars 1 shot kills are good for people who dont have all day to just make afew kills. Besides, I have noticed recently that some TW arenas have some interesting settings for people who demand crazy settings.

I hope this message comes across.... Thanks for listening.

ps: I have noticed my TOTAL NOOBS guide thingy is being used by Zeus... I feel flattered, but to be honest with you, after playing for sometime... I can only laugh at myself..heh.. But maybe its good for people who were in my shoes... Thanks!!!
