Another Idea

I just thought about another way that you could alter the levi itself so that lts would not be as effective.

Make the levi bomb the same as a jav bomb minus the bounce and shrap. This way it will take more skill to aim the actual shot and a level 3 bomb with a huge blast radius will not decimate half of the base due the the lower radius and power.

Good points, and this is exactly the sort of feedback I want - I need to know why my solutions are unworkable, otherwise I will just get frustrated that noone is implementing them!

The idea of split personality pubs has been discussed before, and when I was in staff I took the chance to get peoples ideas from them. I have some vague memory that using bots it might be possible - the crudest way would be to leave all pubs with the same settings, and have bots in all pubs, but in half the pubs, the bots simply *shipreset everyone every few seconds. Crude, I know, but it would stop Levis attaining the bounty necessary to attach.

A more elegant solution would be for bots to *shipreset Levis only (which doesn't affect other peoples bounties), but I am not sure if bots can tell what ship you are in (although it would be silly if they couldn't).

Frankly, I would be quite happy to work on these bot-based solutions myself, if someone gave me the bot cores and an arena in which I could muck around. Failing that, I am willing to pay for staff to do it!

Thanks for mentioning bomb delay, I didn't realise it was possible to impose a delay independantly of recharge rate. That might be a good solution as well.

I would welcome staff trialing ANY of these suggestions, or others they can think of. In fact, at the moment, I think it would be really nice if upper staff acknowledged there was a problem at all! Right now, the majority of players who have a problem with the LeviTerr 'plague' feel very much let down by staff.

Lem, bots would work, and yes they can tell the difference between a warbird and a levi. But pubs are made to be self sufficient, I think outlawing the levi as a whole is a bad idea, some measures to make their job more difficult would be much better. IE:
1) anti-levi base "shell" it's been brought up in the thread, but would be a good idea (?go altbase)

2)Higher attach bounty, such as 50, making the levi a much easier target to warbirds as they try to green.

3)Settings changes, such as bomb fire time, overall energy, and blast radius.

I must say I am against any drastic changed to the levi, if you make it the speed of the warbird with emp bombs, you conserver nothing. Simple changes, while not effecting the ship drastically, can make basing more prominant in pubs.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but, it is impossble to have seperate pubs for seperate things, the server does not work that way.

Pub bots have been created and tested before, for other uses (such as detecting cheaters, I believe).

As regards the self-sufficiency of pubs, why not leave the settings the same as they are now, but have bots in half the pubs sending *shipreset every 10 seconds to Levis. If the bots fail, all arenas default to leviterr friendly - thats fairly self-sufficient.

I'm not suggesting outlawing the levi, simply reseting its bounty to 0 every so often, so it can't attach, and not in every pub arena, just half of them.

But, as I said before, I am willing to try any options to rebalance the gameplay.

I for one don't make pledges like this unless I am absolutely prepared to back them up, so I'd appreciate it if you change that statement to 'almost no one'. You might also want to consider being less of an arrogant cynic. Thanks.
