Jeansi : AMDs newer CPUs run cooler than the current toasty Intel chips.

Video encoding or 3d rendering = Intels domain.
Pretty much everything else = AMD.

And that's not taking into account the future AMD64 4800 X2.

Pan - Fairly decent system you've configured there. Few comments :

    - Make sure your chip is an AMD64 3000+ Venice.
    - Beige drives on a black tower? Bleh. And do you really need two drives?
    - Come to that, do you need a floppy drive? Plump up a few extra bucks and get a USB one.
    - See what mobos of similar specs you can find with nForce4 Ultra. If the price and performance is similar ...
    - Good choice of memory.
    - You're in the US. Go to newegg.com and see what the price of what you've built is there.

I was deciding between Intel and AMD at one point. Decided to go with AMD for the OC. What I'm trying to decide now is if I should wait for the Athlon 64 X2 or not. Any opinion on the X2 vs the reg. 64? If I don't wait, I was thinking about getting the AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice. As Guru mentioned, Venice is the way to go.

Also, I think you should downgrade your video card to a GeForce 6600 GT w/SLI and get a mobo that supports SLI and has 2 16x PCI-Express slots. That way when your 6600 GT doesn't cut it anymore you can just buy another 6600 GT at MUCH cheaper price and you'll be back in the game.

As far as your HDD goes, I'd try to find a HDD with NCQ and I'd go with SATA II or SATA 150. You'll get better performance.

Again, as Guru has mentioned, NewEgg.com is the way to go!

        Oh!
A Dual Core Processor enables you to experience multitasking without slowing your pc... wich means that you can be listening to music, downloading stuff, burning a cd, writting some text all at the same time without slowing your pc.
With each passing day everyone of us does more tasks at the smae time in our pc, a dualcore processor is a processor engeneered to better respond to that situation when you have lots of processes running at the same time.
If you are not to ansious of getting your new pc i would suggest you to get an AMD with Dual processor technology... it's like having 2 processors ^-^

Lol...I figured that much, but thanks for the info. I'm just wondering how soon will the X2 be mainstream and if I should wait till it drops in price or what.

Well the prices are going down all the time, there's always something new just behind the corner. You can wait forever if you go on that road. :P

My 3000+ has taken everything I've thrown at it and just grins at me. OC'd to 2.3Ghz no problem (stock 1.8). Runs most programs I use without any issues.

I can wait for X2 processors. Especially seeing as this mobo can support them and that the Athlon 3000+ cost $149

Very soon the low-end A64 X2 CPu's will hit the shelves starting at A64 X2 3800+ for around $ 345. Take into account that, because these are dualcore CPU's, both cores are clocked down in comparison to their single-core counterparts. For example, a single-core A64 3800+ will outperform an A64 X2 3800+ in singlethreaded applications.

On the subject of cores. Personally I'd go for a San Diego if I could get my hands on it. My next choice would be either a Venice or one of the latest NewCastles (which are often stripped FX-55 with 1/2 of their cache diabled, and OC really well).

Increased HT to about 255 I think. (bite me Angel )

Dropped the HT multiplier to 4x. Wanted to drop it to 3x but it didn't let me to :/

Also changed the timings of my Geil 1Gb memory (1x1024, about $90) to 3-6-3-3 1T.

If you've got the dough, the 74 gb Western Digital Raptor as your main OS/applications drive will make your machine scream, no matter what processor you've got.

I've got twin 36 gb raptors in a Raid 0... but oh, to have command queueing and faster seek times...

Basically thats what my comp is looking at so far.
I use Nexus brand powersupply, if you ever get a problem caused by the powersupply, buy nexus. Pretty decent price, I'd say. Been working for me along time now, flawless.

Also the mouse you are getting, I don't know, but like, if you are getting a X600, you better get a good gaming mouse, like MX510 or something, there are pretty many good gaming mouses out there. And don't get cordless, you will just havea pain in the ass charging it up or using batteries. I mean, who wants to use their mouse from the bed, just pointless. If you are getting the mous just becuase of the color, then you got to be kidding me, you'll just end up having bad gaming experience.

Myself, I use AMD, since I loved my AMD thunderbird 1.33ghz, INTEL _is_ expensive. And I'm also a fan of AMD, so like, I have a barton 2500+ which is good for overclocking. It's base clockfreq is 1,8ghz, while overclocked, 2.19ghz. I have a panel for my fan too, that controls em, the voltage and if they are on or off. I got some pictures if you are intrested in my customized computer. Its also quite big, its a tower model. I don't have any neon light though, thats just not really my style. As long as the computer works.. :>

I've got two DM10 200GB HDD's in a RAID 0 array. I didn't at first, because the DM10 seem to have some problems with some RAID-controllers, but it works perfectly for me. Still, in my situation the speed increase isn't that noticable.

I really wanted to get 10k RPM HDs for this computer, but decided to go for a cheapie SATA drive instead. Wonder how fast SATA II drives will be

You can currently get $20 off a 74Gb 10k RPM drive at newegg : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144160

Re Mice : I have an MX1000. Bloody brilliant mouse. Got it for $50 and now it's about $67. If you want to plump the money up it's a great buy but really think about if you want to spend that kind of money on a mouse.
